The MMO New World made a fantastic start at its release, but the number of active players on Steam has drastically decreased since then. What does the future hold for the game? We discuss it in the current episode of our podcast.
This is the topic: The release of the MMO New World at the end of September 2021 was a major event. The servers were overwhelmed from the first minute, and hours-long queues formed with thousands of players waiting to finally be able to play.
With an all-time peak of over 900,000 concurrent users online, New World shot straight into the top 3 of the most played Steam games within the first days. Even the executives of Amazon were satisfied with the launch, although there were some server-side issues.
However, over time, player numbers continued to decline, revealing various issues, serious bugs, and exploits. There were multiple gold and dupe exploits that led to temporary shutdowns of trading systems and even a rollback.
Nevertheless, after the first major update, the reviews on Steam came in, and New World continues to struggle with bugs and issues.
What will happen with New World? This question was addressed by the MMORPG editor Alexander Leitsch and editorial director Gerd Schuhmann.
