Crimson Desert was originally announced as an MMORPG. But how much multiplayer is left now? You can find all the info here.
Multiplayer in Crimson Desert, is there one? No, there is currently no multiplayer. Although the game was originally planned as an MMORPG and it was also later said that there would be multiplayer or MMO content, the game will initially launch as a single-player experience.
However, in the context of a business report (source: irsvc.teletogether.com), it was already discussed what will happen with the game after the release, and the planning of a multiplayer was mentioned.
Also, in a recent talk with shareholders, multiplayer was a topic. However, it was stated that mainly the technology would pose a problem. They would not completely rule it out for the future.
Multiplayer for Crimson Desert – Future and Content
When is the multiplayer supposed to come? There is no exact date for this yet, and it’s currently unclear if the multiplayer will really come. The business report mentioned that they would consider implementation if the game is financially successful enough. The framework for it is already in place.
What content is planned for multiplayer? According to an investors’ meeting, the multiplayer is supposed to be “similar to GTA” (see ResetEra.com). Players will be able to form gangs and complete various missions together. PvP elements are also on the table in this regard.
Can you create your own characters for multiplayer? So far, nothing is known about this. However, it is very likely that only the characters you can play will be available, that you can also play in single-player.
Will there be microtransactions? Probably not. In a podcast, Will Powers, Director of Marketing for Crimson Desert, explained that there will be no cash shop for cosmetic items.
Will there also be crossplay? There is currently no information on this. However, it is very likely that you will be able to enjoy multiplayer with friends on other platforms. Whether it will be like in Black Desert, possible only for console players, remains to be seen.
But even if there are no multiplayer contents at the release of Crimson Desert, the game comes with a huge array of different features. MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz took a closer look at all the content and believes that it can probably compete easily with an ambitious surprise from 2025: Crimson Desert is a solo experience with MMO scope, which could be as successful as the big RPG surprise of 2025
