Funcom has announced a huge update for Conan Exiles that resembles more of a remaster. With Conan Exiles Enhanced, the survival game receives a new engine and a ton of improvements – but only on Steam.
What kind of update is this? Conan Exiles Enhanced brings the survival game from Unreal Engine 4, which is currently still in use, to UE 5. On May 5, the update will be rolled out on Steam for all owners of the game free of charge.
This is expected to achieve a performance improvement with a target of 60+ FPS for all quality settings. Additionally, there will be a lot of enhancements to the base game, such as:
- The Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah will be merged. Only one server is necessary and you travel via teleport. Access to the island is still only possible with the DLC that significantly expands the map.
- You can now have multiple characters side by side on the same (solo) server.
- The size of the client will shrink by about 66%, from 120 to 40 GB.
- Steam Deck support is coming.
- The user interface will be cleaned up and made clearer. Additionally, many bugs will be fixed.
You can read the full scope of the update on the Conan Exiles website.
Conan Exiles goes modern, chokes Xbox and PlayStation
The Enhanced update is free, but will (for now) only be rolled out for Steam. Versions for the MS Store, Epic, as well as on consoles (Xbox and PS4/5) will remain at the old version for the moment. Whether and when the update will come here is still open. Funcom does not want to completely rule out the possibility.
However, the blog post also states: the “old” version, i.e., the one on UE 4, will no longer receive major content updates, only necessary bug fixes. Additionally, all official servers will be updated to the new version. Players with the legacy version on PC – that is, everyone except Steam users – will no longer have access there. Xbox and PlayStation servers will remain on the old version and thus accessible.
How exactly things will progress with Conan Exiles in general, Funcom intends to reveal in the coming days. Currently, the focus seems to be primarily on the new survival game Dune: Awakening, which recently received a major update and fulfilled a big wish.
In general, things are currently looking very good for survival fans. Not only are existing titles receiving more attention, but also new games are being released, and at a particularly – for the genre – high quality: There is currently a golden age for survival games on Steam, and not just thanks to Windrose
