This is what Rockstar says: A recent interview with Rockstar’s lead developer Rob Nelson is circulating, published on the French site troiscouleurs.fr. There, Nelson explains among other things that the development of GTA 6 started in 2015, but the majority of the team didn’t start working on the game until 2018 when Red Dead Redemption 2 was finished.
Nelson also explains that such a long development time comes with some challenges: “We have to be very careful about which ideas we choose, as it may take a long time to find our perspective on them. Because by the time we have written something, cast it, recorded it, and implemented it in the game – whatever it is – it could already be gone, changed, or feel outdated.”
