Not all members of the Straw Hat crew have been cast with actors in the Netflix series by One Piece. If you ask the cast directly, they would wish for two former wrestlers. One of them, because they really want to hug him.
Who does the One Piece cast wish for? At Galaxycon, actors Jacob Gibson (Usopp) and Emily Rudd (Nami) answered fans’ questions. A fan, dressed as Law in a crocheted outfit, asked who the two actors would choose if they could pick some castings.
Rudd immediately replied that both Gibson and Iñaki Godoy, the actor of Luffy, would wish for any role for Danny DeVito. Rudd wouldn’t mind if the actor joined the cast. Gibson jokingly responded that they would talk about DeVito all day long.
In addition, the two actors would like to see two former wrestlers:
- Gibson wishes for Dave Bautista as Jimbei. Bautista is primarily known as Drax from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies from the Marvel universe. Gibson states that the actor is just big, and he wants to hug him.
- Rudd chimes in and mentions John Cena as Franky. This actor has also been seen in numerous films, including comedies.
Unfortunately, however, the actors will not have as much say as the producers themselves or Eiichiro Oda, who created the manga for One Piece. Since Franky and Jimbei are very large and muscular, former professional athletes might be cast for those roles.
There would be a problem with a former wrestler
What else do the two actors say? In response to Rudd’s suggestion to cast John Cena, Gibson retorts that you wouldn’t be able to see him anymore. He is referring to a meme that went viral during Cena’s professional days.
His most famous catchphrase in the ring was You can’t see me
. He would usually wave his flat hand in front of his own face before attacking his opponent. Originally, he meant that he was fighting on a whole other level than his opponents.
However, fans turned this into a running gag, pretending that John Cena literally meant he was invisible. On many pictures and products featuring Cena, such as here on X, they commented on why there was an empty picture and that they couldn’t see anyone there.
Fans also have their own ideas regarding what roles the actors should play in One Piece. They actually wanted a specific actress for the role of Dr. Kulea. At least until they saw the original: Fans dismiss an actress for the Netflix series of One Piece when they see how awesome the original is now
