Just under a week after the release of Lord of Hatred, players have found the Cow Level in Diablo 4 – or at least the way there. Now, a day later, the portal is really open. Only today, because it seems that you have to kill cows on Tuesdays.
Since Monday, we have known how to enter the Cow Island in Diablo 4. At this point, the mystery of the secret Cow Level in Diablo 4 was for a moment over, because while there were still cows in a cellar, there was no solution yet.
Now the portal to the real Cow Level is open and it seems it has only been open since today, Tuesday. Because you must kill the cows on a Tuesday, as YouTuber and streamer LoatheBurger has discovered:
- Follow our guide to opening the Cow Level (this information will be added)
- Then, on a Tuesday – that is today – go back to Kyovashad and to the shrine there.
- Select “Greed” as the sin.
- Interact with the diary from the very first step of the Cow Level in Skovos.
- Return to the island and kill the cows in the cellar. A portal to the real Cow Level will open in the middle.
As expected, the island itself was not the end of the mystery and clues like the portals on the drawing – which represent the weekdays – have led to the final opening. We currently do not know if you can enter the Cow Level at any time after the first opening, only on Tuesdays, or even just once per character. For this information, we will have to wait another week.
Cow Level, Cow King, and the Mythical Crown
In the Cow Level itself, you will find… of course, plenty of cows, but also a unique boss: the Cow King. He provides a more or less tough fight, but also drops a special item (that we discovered while testing): The Cow King’s Crown.
This crown has several… questionable effects, depending on the day of the week:
- Moo-Monday: +1 damage against bipedal enemies (if leg x2 = damage)
- Tuesday: 10% reduced chance of having bad luck in combat against Pi-times-Thumb-removed enemies. This distance corresponds to 3 to 18 hooves, assuming this afternoon is parallel to the equator.
- Wednesday: Chance to reduce enemy cooldowns (No).
- Thursday: After picking up a legendary item, you deal between 3% increased damage to livestock-weak stunned enemies that are not elite enemies between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM.
- Friday: +10.26% Moo-bility damage while moving
- Saturday: +1.3% chance to ignore Cow-Troll loss if you have already suffered Cow-Troll loss in Hell Flood for more than 10 weeks
- Sunday: +51 life on death (+Maybe).
The item as well as the fact that the Cow Level can only be entered on Tuesdays is a nod from Blizzard to their own design decisions from earlier. At the release of Diablo 4, there were plenty of affixes with special conditions that were eventually summarized by the community as “damage on Tuesdays”.
With Lord of Hatred, the greatest mystery in Diablo 4 has finally been solved. The secret level has been a mystery since the early days of the series and a recurring Easter egg that should not be missing in any real Diablo: What is the Cow Level in Diablo and why does everyone want to find it?
