Pokémon GO is under the sign of the Rocket takeover. Who should you fight now – Sierra, Arlo, Cliff, or Giovanni?
In Pokémon GO, the Steel Resolution event has brought a change to Team GO Rocket. The rascals are now taking over the game and appearing at numerous PokéStops. Additionally, they have new Pokémon with them that want to be freed.
And this also applies to the bosses:
- Giovanni uses Shadow Tornadus
- Sierra now fights with Shadow Sableye
- Arlo brings Shadow Bagon
- Cliff relies on Shadow Snorlax
These Pokémon are thus also the rewards you receive for the battle. Which ones are worth it the most? We will take a closer look at the monsters individually.
Is Giovanni worth it with Shadow Tornadus?
Shadow Tornadus in its Incarnate Form is a Pokémon that you most likely want to use as a fighter in raids or gyms. It ascends in its Shadow form to a top attacker of the Ground type. It is only surpassed by Pokémon like Shadow Groudon, Primal Groudon, or the special forms of Garchomp.
In PvP, you can generally do without Tornadus.
The collector factor should not be underestimated: Tornadus is a legendary Pokémon and therefore interesting for players who want to fill their Pokédex.

Is Sierra worth it with Shadow Sableye?
Sableye can evolve from Sableye to Sableye. Let’s keep it short: The ghost Pokémon is not a particularly exciting choice when it comes to powerhouse monsters. Neither in PvP nor PvE does it have much to offer – regardless of its evolution stage.
You can find the counters against Sierra here.
Is Arlo worth it with Shadow Bagon?
Shadow Bagon evolves into Salamence. This Pokémon is also not very useful in gyms or raids, making it uninteresting in PvE.
In PvP, however, Salamence is a very good choice if you are fighting in the Great League. So you could get a good specimen for the battle league.
You can find the counters against Arlo here.
Is Cliff worth it with Shadow Snorlax?
Snorlax is a Pokémon that can take a lot and can be quite annoying in battle. You should be prepared for this when you challenge Cliff.
At the same time, Snorlax is not a particularly good Pokémon if you want to use it in PvP or PvE. It is most worthwhile to use Snorlax as a defender in gyms.
However, Snorlax is generally a classic and a fan favorite. So it may still be interesting for many.

The Rocket takeover marks the end of April. But the new month is already on the horizon: May begins and brings new dates to Pokémon GO. Initially, everything is still under the sign of Team Rocket, but this will change shortly after. You can read everything that’s happening in the new month here: All events in Pokémon GO in May 2026.
