Elden Ring has a massive selection of weapons. Although most of them are at least good, some clearly belong to the best weapons in the game. MeinMMO sorts all weapons into a tier list for you. We’ll also tell you in detail which ones are currently at the top of the meta and why.

Currently, there are known to be a total of 411 weapons in Elden Ring + its new DLC. Most of them have their own unique playstyle and can be further customized with the war ash. Choosing the perfect weapon can thus be challenging.

Therefore, we will tell you which weapons are currently meta and for which you should use smithing stones. The selection was made based on our own assessments from the Souls-experienced editorial team as well as the collected opinions from the community in social media and the comments on the Fextralife Wiki.

Why is this weapon so strong? Since patch 1.03 has fixed the broken attribute scaling of some weapons, one weapon in particular has quickly become the new star overnight. The katana Rivers of Blood is now at the top of the meta in both PvE and PvP.

This is mainly due to 3 major strengths:

• The now great scaling of the attributes ensures high base damage.
• The bleed damage of the weapon is fantastic.
• The weapon talent is a dominant all-rounder.

Moreover, the weapon is a katana, making it one of the strongest and most flexible weapon classes in the game.

But the weapon talent “Bloody Butcher” is the real star of this show. With it, you initiate a combo of rapid attacks that spray blood at a large distance. These deal damage, and a lot. And a variety of great types of damage: high physical damage, significant blood loss, and very high posture damage.

You can even extend this strong combo with further activations of the weapon talent. This allows you to deal some of the best damage in the game at a wide radius and considerable distance. It’s even the hammer as an AoE attack and the perfect counter to even the fastest single enemies.

The FP consumption of the talent is relatively high, but can be adjusted with the right talismans.

Elden Ring: How to find the Moonveil Katana, one of the best weapons in the game

Why is this weapon so strong? The Moonveil katana scales with Dexterity and Intelligence. Builds that focus on these 2 attributes are currently considered some of the strongest builds in Elden Ring. 

Because Dexterity weapons, particularly katanas, are currently seen as the best weapons in the game by the community, and having a high Wisdom attribute gives you the flexibility to respond with powerful magic to any type of opponent.

Essentially, the Moonveil katana plays like the fantastic Uchigatana with magic damage. This is already strong in itself; however, the katana is truly outstanding due to its weapon talent. 

The talent “Transient Moonlight” essentially combines the strengths of the Uchigatana’s talent with the power of the Dark Moon Greatsword, creating a nimble hybrid for swift maneuvers.

With the talent, you switch, like with Iaido, into a special stance from which a tremendously fast horizontal or vertical strike can follow. The Moonveil also fires a powerful magic beam. This has a great range, is quick, breaks your opponent’s posture, and simultaneously deals magic and bleed damage. 

This makes Moonveil a better and more versatile version of the Uchigatana. Additionally, it scales very well and requires arguably the strongest current build in Elden Ring. This clearly makes the weapon one of the absolute best in the game. And if you want, you can even find the katana early in the game.

Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear

Location: Can be obtained from the Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold when you exchange Mohgwyn’s Echo. First, you need to defeat Mohgwyn in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.

Why is this weapon so strong? Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear is a strong option when facing bosses or many smaller enemies. The reason is the talent “Blood Ritual”. This talent allows you to raise the spear up to 3 times to deal high damage to enemies in a large radius.

All enemies will experience blood explosions, hindering them while attacking. After the ritual, your weapon will be temporarily drenched in blood flame, which causes additional flame damage if you hit an opponent.

Lastly, the spear causes blood loss and has a large range that ensures you can keep your enemies at a good distance. This way you stay safe while easily causing bleeding to your foes.

The 3 weapons we detailed are currently the strongest in the game. However, there are still some other weapons that are incredibly powerful. We will briefly list them for you here and mention their locations.

These 10 weapons are randomly sorted and follow no particular order:

• Greatsword of the Godslayer (In a chest after the boss of the Holy Tower of Caelid)
• Dark Moonlight Greatsword (Reward for Ranni’s quest)
• Greatsword (In a chest on a cart near the ruins of Caelum in Caelid)
• Claymore (In a chest in Castle Morne)
• Giant Crusher (In a chest on a cart near the Outer Wall – Phantom Tree in Altus Plateau)
• Dark Cavalry Glaive (Fight the Dark Cavalry on the eastern side of the Lucaria Gate)
• Bloodhound’s Fang (in Limgrave)
• Astel’s Wing (in Ainsel)
• Nagakiba (Defeat Hunter Yura as Bloody Finger near the Trubo River Catacombs in Limgrave)
