Are you still missing a Mega-Rayquaza in Pokémon GO? It looks like you will soon have a very good chance to get one.
Pokémon GO has announced a pretty exciting event: The Ozone Ascension
. This event apparently revolves entirely around one of the absolute top attackers in Pokémon GO: Mega-Rayquaza.
When does the event start? Ozone Ascension starts on Saturday, July 25, at 10:00 AM. It ends on Sunday at 8:00 PM.
What makes it special? The event will bring a limited-time research that can only be completed until the event ends.
The exciting part: This research not only brings you a Rayquaza but also a desperately needed meteorite. This item is required to evolve Rayquaza into Mega-Rayquaza, as it teaches the move Sky Strike. Sky Strike is a requirement for the evolution, as well as sufficient Mega Energy.
The research is expected to bring more surprises, but it’s unclear what they will be.
Why is this special?
So far, it hasn’t been easy to obtain a Mega-Rayquaza. It has only been available in raids and had to be defeated there. A very difficult task when you lacked an active group to tackle the raid. Alone, the challenge is hardly manageable.
The main problem: It is not guaranteed that a Mega-Rayquaza from raids will drop a meteorite along with the Mega Energy. Even if you defeated it, you could still get unlucky.
However, with the limited-time research, the meteorite would be guaranteed.
Is there a problem? One thing stands out in the announcement: In addition to the research mentioned above, there will also be another one that costs $4.99 (similar in euros). The rewards for this will mention not only another meteorite and another encounter with Rayquaza, but also Mega Energy for Rayquaza.
This is currently noticeably missing from the announcement of the free research – and you need that for the evolution. So, we’ll have to see to what extent the research provides players with the necessary Mega Level to transform Rayquaza.
