Recently, there were massive leaks concerning the future of the entire Warcraft franchise. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus sat down with GameStar for an analysis.
What is this talk about? Dataminers have uncovered details about the infamous “Project Camelot” on Blizzard’s servers. It contained leaks about a potential WoW Classic+ as well as two completely new secret projects.
MeinMMO editor and Warcraft expert Benedict Grothaus discusses with moderator Lea Herfurther, GameStar colleague Julius Busch, and MMO enthusiast Kevin Nielsen the leaked information and goes into an analytical deep dive about what we might see at the upcoming BlizzCon.
Here is the complete talk on YouTube:
Warcraft 4, WoW Classic+ and an Action RPG – the future of Warcraft?
What exactly is the talk about? The talk addresses the extensive leaks regarding a potential project called “WoW Camelot,” which likely pertains to WoW Classic+. The group discusses the findings from dataminers that suggest a new edition could combine the original 2004 gameplay experience with modern quality-of-life improvements and new content.
The focus is also on what a Classic+ must distinguish itself from “regular” Classic and what makes Classic itself so special. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus believes that the modernizations that could come with Classic+ should not ruin the role-playing feel that Classic conveys.
Because the modern WoW (Retail) is no longer a classic role-playing game, and that is the main reason why so many players enjoy playing Classic.
Furthermore, the participants analyze a leaked timeline that suggests updates for WoW as well as an action RPG featuring the character Arthas and a new Warcraft strategy game (Warcraft 4?) by 2030. The group is confident that there will be new and especially official information and confirmations regarding the previous leaks at BlizzCon on September 12 – 13, 2026. If all this proves true, the event will be significantly monumental.
What are your thoughts on the leaks? Which points interest you the most?
