Currently, numerous interested players are allowed to participate in the first alpha playtest of Scars of Honor on Steam. The first feedback from the community is clear: The team has a lot of work ahead of them.
What kind of playtest is this? The team of Scars of Honor invites from April 30 to May 11, 2026 for the first time to an alpha playtest on Steam. Invited players may create characters of level 16 for the races human, barrier, dwarf, undead, inferno demon, or Gronthar and try out the four classes paladin, mage, ranger, and druid.
Testers can expect a still quite rough quest experience in the region of Ondall’s Fall, a selection of gathering and crafting activities, and they can explore the extensive talent trees and unlock initial scar perks. Throughout the test, further content will be unlocked, such as the world boss Lord of Shadows, a battlefield, or the PvP arena.
Please, no early access in Q4 2026
What is the first impression of the testers? A discussion on Reddit currently clearly shows how raw the player experience in the alpha of Scars of Honor still is. Player Kevadu reports countless bugs, massive performance dips, the lack of hit feedback in combat, and the difficulty of selecting opponents in chaotic situations.
His devastating conclusion: “The playtest for Scars of Honor somehow makes even the beta of Chrono Odyssey look good.” In his assessment, the developers should definitely not aim for an early access launch in Q4 2026.
In the comments, various players underscore Kevadu’s experiences. VermillionWeasel explains on Reddit for example: “I’ve been following this game, I think since 2020 or 2021, and they want to release it this year. Given this timeline, the game is simply not ready, and it won’t be finished. It clearly needs a few more years in development.”
How does MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz evaluate the test? I’ve only managed to play a few hours, but I understand the feedback from players: Everything about Scars of Honor still feels rough and unfinished. Essential pillars like combat are not yet fun.
However, I also see quite a bit of potential. Scars of Honor already rewards group play when questing and gathering resources. The talent trees offer numerous options for different play styles. There is a foundation to build on.
This is a crude alpha that should ideally be worked on for a while longer before leaving the closed testing phases and potentially publishing an early access version. I will go into much more detail once I have enough hours for my own experience report. That should go online on MeinMMO during the week.
Why the comparison to Chrono Odyssey? The MMORPG from Chrono Studio also seemed very unfinished and bug-ridden during the first Steam test in summer 2025. The critical feedback from testers led to several delays and a very long to-do list for the developers.
