Boc is not the only example of an NPC in Limgrave who surprises players. Gostoc, the gatekeeper at Stormveil Castle, pretends to be a kind soul. In reality, however, he is cheating you all the time in the most brazen way:
However, since experienced players are also likely to ignore this part of the map during new playthroughs, even after the patch, the chances remain slim that Boc will be found by these players.
Ironically, new players who will most likely follow the main path now have the best chance of finding Boc.
After the patch, Boc has become much louder with his desperate cries, so he can now be heard much better from a distance. Newbies carefully making their way down the first main road will thus hear these cries most likely.
The extent of the difference is shown in this tweet:
Boc’s quest is also heartbreakingly tragic after the update
What role does Boc play in the game? From a purely gameplay perspective, it’s absolutely no problem to miss the half-human tailor. Because Boc can adjust your clothes – something you can later do yourself at any site of grace.
However, from a narrative perspective, it’s worth starting and completing Boc’s quest. Without revealing too much: Boc is a sympathetic soul who has become an outsider for several reasons and desires nothing more than a fresh start.
In Elden Ring, however, few things are as easy and uncomplicated. This also applies to Boc. If you missed the NPC or don’t feel like completing the quest yourself, you can see all scenes and necessary steps in this video:
Did you discover Boc? If so, was it before or after the update? And how did you do it? Did you find his quest good? Let us know in the comments.

The vast world of Elden Ring is filled with all sorts of curious moments and interesting secrets. However, many fans who have been playing the action RPG since the beginning have completely missed a sad quest. Instead, it’s now new players who will have their hearts broken by the NPC Boc.
The authors who primarily write about Elden Ring at the MeinMMO editorial team had a joint Aha moment a few weeks ago. We had completed FromSoftware’s action RPG 6 times among ourselves and only then found an NPC who appears right at the beginning.
The half-human tailor hides right by the 3rd site of grace that players will visit on purpose. He is actually located just a bit east of the spot where most players get the horse Stormwind.
However, because he was unknowingly well hidden, most completely missed him. Ironically, it’s the new players who find him much more easily, and thus get to experience his heart-wrenching quest.
Boc is louder after the update, but new players are most likely to hear him
Where is the NPC hiding? The poor guy Boc was unknowingly turned into a bush near the telescope in the starting region Limgrave. As such, he is waiting to finally be noticed.
Before the big update 1.03, this waiting was mostly in vain – players would simply ride past him without even thinking that one of these bushes could actually be a kind NPC.

Why do new players find him more easily? Before the patch, players had to stray from the main path and stand almost directly next to Boc to hear him. However, anyone who does not suspect anything hidden here will unwittingly play through the entire game and then forever miss the chance to find Boc before New Game Plus.
