With Lord of Hatred, Diablo 4 receives numerous new features. This includes the Horadrim Cube, which allows you to specifically modify your items. What recipes the cube offers and how to use them, you will find out here.
What is the Horadrim Cube? In the campaign of Lord of Hatred, you will discover the Horadrim Cube. The feature previously existed in Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 (there under the name “Kanai’s Cube”). Basically, you place items and materials in the cube, and various recipes result in different effects. These modifications can massively enhance your builds and enable completely new strategies.
For most recipes, you need special crafting materials from different sources. The functions we currently know are summarized for you below.
Horadrim Cube: Unlocking and Using Recipes
How do I unlock the Horadrim Cube? The Horadrim Cube is part of the new campaign of Lord of Hatred. This means: The DLC is essential to use this feature. What you can play for “free” and for what you need the DLC, you will find out here. Once you have unlocked the Horadrim Cube, it will be available to you in Temis. This is the first region in Skovos that you visit.
How does the Horadrim Cube work? Simply put, you can customize, modify, and craft equipment, consumables, socket items, and talisman spells. For this, you use so-called “recipes” that the Horadrim Cube has stored.
The following recipes are available:
Equipment Modifications
- Add affix: Adds a random affix to an item.
- Chaotic re-rolling: Replaces an affix with another affix of the same category.
- Focused re-rolling: Replaces an affix with another affix of the same category.
- Remove affix: Removes a random affix from an item.
- Transmute item: Grants a random modification. The item might become unmodifiable, similar to the “Holy” from Season 11.
- Re-roll unique property: Randomly resets the value of the unique property of a legacy item.
Item Mutation
- Transmutation 3 to 1: Transmutes three identical equipment, talisman, or rune items into a random new item of the same type.
- Return unique items: Transmutes three of the same unique equipment items or talisman spells into a new version of that unique item.
- Upgrade to unique: Transmutes a regular equipment item into a random unique item of the same type.
- Upgrade to legendary: Transmutes a rare equipment item into a legendary one with a random legendary property.
- Re-roll set talisman spell: Transmutes a set talisman spell into another talisman spell from the same set.
- Create unique talisman spell: Transmutes a unique equipment item into a unique talisman spell.
- Fusion: Transmutes multiple copies of the same item to upgrade it.
Additionally, you can create legendary runes from a specific magical, 5 random rare, and 5 random legendary runes of the same category (Invocation or Ritual).
In addition to the standard recipes, there are according to Blizzard hidden “secret recipes” whose ingredients you can find in unusual places in the world.
Horadrim Cube: Crafting Materials and Locations
What materials do I need for the Horadrim Cube? Like every crafting system, the cube requires specific mats. In total, there are eight different materials, ranging from magical to unique, that you can obtain in different locations:
- Filled Horadric Resin (magical)
- Use: Crafting talisman spells and seals.
- Location: Recycling talisman spells and seals.
- Raw Ur Dust
- Use: For most transmutations.
- Location: Elite monsters, cube loot from war plans, chest rewards from the Whispering Tree.
- Coarse Ur Dust (magical)
- Use: For transmutations that add affixes.
- Location: Cube loot from war plans, chest rewards from the Whispering Tree, elite monsters.
- Refined Ur Dust (rare)
- Use: For transmutations that change or remove affixes.
- Location: Cube loot from war plans, chest rewards from the Whispering Tree, elite monsters.
- Unpredictable Ur Dust (legendary)
- Use: Transmuting items.
- Location: Cube loot from war plans, chest rewards from the Whispering Tree, elite monsters.
- Pure Ur Dust (legendary)
- Use: For transmutations that create legendary items.
- Location: Cube loot from war plans, chest rewards from the Whispering Tree, elite monsters.
- Improved Ur Dust (unique)
- Use: For transmutations that create unique items.
- Location: Cube loot from war plans, chest rewards from the Whispering Tree, elite monsters.
- Tuned Ur Dust (unique)
- Use: For re-rolling the value of a Unique’s property.
- Location: Cube loot from war plans, chest rewards from the Whispering Tree, elite monsters.
Additionally, there are optional materials like tuning prisms, which affect the outcome when crafting – so-called tuning prisms. They remove the riskiest but also the most powerful results. You can find them all over Sanctuary. Unlike crafting mats, they are stored in your inventory as consumables.
Also, common, magical, and rare items now drop again at Qual levels. You can use them as crafting materials in the cube, expand their affixes or simply increase their rarity.
In addition to the cube, Lord of Hatred also brings other new features to Diablo 4, such as fishing and the talisman system.
