The new trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 elicits mixed feelings among the fans. It actually offers exactly what everyone wants to see, yet the fans still feel like it just can’t be good.
What kind of trailer is this? On May 28, 2026, the developers of Call of Duty announced their new title, Modern Warfare 4. In the trailer, we see a war erupting between North and South Korea, which will later likely serve as the setting for the campaign and multiplayer.
At the same time, two well-known characters from Call of Duty, Price and Ghost, return to the game, familiar to the fans for a long time. So far, there is only the story trailer and the pre-order page visible, but that is enough for the fans to complain.

Barely any trust left
How have the fans received the trailer? The fans of Call of Duty have mixed opinions. The trailer and the setting of a conflict on the Korean Peninsula are well-received by the fans. At the same time, they also harbor resentments towards CoD because of its past.
Thus, the comments on YouTube initially sound positive:
- Akumagachi: “Every time I see Price, he looks younger.”
- maulcun: “I can’t wait for the campaign to once again be about finding ballistic missiles.”
- SSJ_EWGF: “The entire CoD community is currently going through a crisis because of this dispute between Ghost and Price.”
What is the criticism? On Reddit, a user expresses what players are really afraid of and what they expect from the new installment right away. There, Reddit user acreativeuzername writes that Call of Duty tends to suck out every anticipation in advance because the game, even if it should be good at release, will be ruined within six months by the always same content strategy.
He criticizes in particular:
- Developers initially promote with buzzwords like “return to military roots.”
- After a few seasons, the atmosphere will be destroyed by absurd cosmetic skins (like K-Pop Demon Hunters), for which he blames the focus on Warzone.
- He firmly expects the typical, hectic movement from the last installments.
His criticism exemplifies many other players who agree with him and supplement his comment with further critiques against the developers.
Call of Duty must reunite its own community with Modern Warfare 4, as they seem to be fed up with the “modern” game and would like to return to the roots. How about you? Are you looking forward to the next installment or is CoD long written off for you? Feel free to share in the comments.
