The Enhanced version of Conan Exiles attracts half of the MeinMMO editorial team to the land of the damned. Joining in: MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz, who enjoys a very different experience as a Boomer compared to the youngsters.
Since the launch of Dune: Awakening in June 2025, I never thought I would once again take on the role of Conan to escape from exile in the land of the damned. After all, the Funcom creatives now have a new baby they want or need to take care of.
But then the Norwegians suddenly release the Enhanced version and throw their now dusty survival adventure from 2018 into the here and now, with stylish visuals, improved performance, and sensible innovations. All of a sudden, this damned land looks quite sexy.
And since there was a few days of breathing room between the playtests of Scars of Honor and Honor of Kings: World (report to follow next week), I eagerly started the download … only to find myself later on the server, where a few colleagues are also playing.
Generational conflict in the homeland of Conan
Even though we have all now accumulated a good amount of playtime in the Enhanced version, it is remarkable how rarely we have crossed paths on the server so far. After all, we live on the same island!
The thing is: I’m a dad of two boys and I lead a rather Boomer lifestyle. So I usually get up early with the little one, even on weekends and holidays, and then sit in front of the PC between 6 and 7 in the morning with my first coffee.
That has often been exactly the time when one of the fellow survivors was just online to wish me a good morning and then say goodbye to bed. They had pulled another night shift, the crazies. While I was already in the land of dreams by 10:30 PM.
No sooner had the metaphorical baton been passed than I had the server all to myself for hours. As part of my regular morning routine, it was first to check what my clan had been up to overnight … already on the second day, the guys had conjured a village-sized fortress out of nowhere, which already casts a shadow over everything I had built during my last play session of Conan Exiles.
While the youngsters are almost flooring it every night, constructing a metropolis and rocking dungeons together, I have been focusing on completing various chapter goals and cozy solo exploration trips for days. Therefore, I can currently only show a small wooden hut with a jetty by the river, which contains a bed, a table, and some chests.
Since the hut is within spitting distance of my clan’s fortress, the contrast is immediately striking. Much like Carl Fredricksen’s cute house from the Pixar classic “Up”, which is surrounded by imposing skyscrapers. It somehow doesn’t fit into the picture … and inside, a Boomer wanders through the rooms.
The gaming experience of the young colleagues and me could hardly be more different in the Enhanced version of Conan Exiles at the moment. But there is also one important commonality: We’re having a blast! Some might even be overdoing it a bit with their playtime: I haven’t touched Conan Exiles for 8 years, now it has devoured almost 50 hours in just one week
