How the story of Detective Conan ends is already known to the author. He has it all planned out.
When thinking of anime and manga that run for an almost endless time, most people probably think of One Piece. After a moment of consideration, many will also think of Detective Conan, as it is a manga (and an anime) that has been produced for almost 30 years.
However, some fans are now worried because the creator of the story, Gosho Aoyama, has announced: The end is already planned.

The finale of Detective Conan is already drawn
What was said? On Japanese television of the channel NTV (Nippon Television Network), two fans had the opportunity to visit Gosho Aoyama, the inventor of Detective Conan, in his studio and ask him questions (via toy people news). One of the fans asked during the interview: “I always think from the end. Even currently in my life, I’m already thinking about retirement. Do you have a similar mindset, Master?”
Gosho Aoyama’s response was prompt and left some fans a bit worried:
The storyboard for the last chapter is already drawn. Do you want to see it? (…) They have really turned out well!
How long has Conan been running? Detective Conan is one of the longest-running series that is not only successful as a manga but also has a new anime episode almost every week. Furthermore, there are already 29 movies about the little (but actually big) detective. With over 1,200 episodes, anyone wanting to catch up now will likely have the longest binge weekend of their life.
Does this mean Detective Conan will end soon? No, it does not mean that. It is common for many authors to think about their stories “from the end,” meaning they consider how a story will ultimately conclude relatively early. This is the case with most novels and indeed with other works such as manga. This makes it easier to write all the chapters on the way to that finale with a clear goal, and that is likely how Gosho Aoyama has proceeded.
Those worried that the story of the detective will end soon can therefore be reassured for now. Just because the finale of the plot already exists as a developed storyboard does not mean we will see it anytime soon.
