Since the release of version 1.0, you can finally build on the water in Palworld – almost anywhere. But only almost, because the dream of a “treehouse” remains unattainable.
Which place is denied to players? The gigantic world tree in the north of the map can be seen from afar. Although a wall blocks the direct way during normal gameplay, you will reach the island as part of the main story. There, you will find a unique map, numerous Pals, and valuable resources.
However, what you cannot do there is build. Although the 1.0 update has massively expanded the building system, the area around the world tree is locked as a location for your base.

Players praise the new building system, but it has its limits
This is what players say about it: On Reddit, a player shows his water base that he created near the world tree. He is clearly excited that you can finally build on the water and praises the developers for the feature:
In the comments, the community celebrates the new freedoms. The user Arch_Priest_of_Axis writes, for example, that he can now finally build in lakes near waterfalls, which he could only dream of before. Others note that water bases can no longer be raided, which is an additional advantage – at least if you don’t want to disable this in the settings.
But there is also criticism. Many players searched for a long time for a nice building spot directly at the world tree, only to be disappointed to find out that a Pal box cannot be placed there. Without the box, buildings deteriorate over time, and Pals cannot be deployed there for work either.
An additional point of criticism concerns the level system. The required water building set can only be unlocked late in the game at level 66 in the technology tree. On top of that, you need rare materials to craft the tool that allows you to build on the water, which you will also only get at higher levels.
Many players would like to have this feature available for the mid-game (around level 50) when the construction of the second or third base is due. Thus, creative ideas for beach or lake bases in the early and mid-game are initially getting overlooked.
