Nearly 10 years after the release of No Man’s Sky, the developers have released an unexpected update. Alongside the mixed reactions from fans, the Steam hit Palworld has also responded to the new update with a wink.
What kind of update is it? The developers at Hello Games have released the next major update for No Man’s Sky. The update is called Xeno Arena and brings a large number of monsters into the space adventure, which you can train, breed, and eventually fight with (nomanssky.com).
More than 100 different abilities are promised, dealing damage, healing, or causing status effects. In addition, your monsters gain experience to unlock genetic mutations. All of this is somewhat reminiscent of Pokémon or Palworld.
Some fans are wondering whether the developers are slowly running out of ideas. However, there are also many players who are positively surprised by the new update and are celebrating it.
Here you can watch the trailer for the new update of No Man’s Sky:
Fans are both positively and negatively surprised, and even Palworld reacted with a wink
How are fans reacting? On Reddit, the reaction to Xeno Arena is mostly positive. User eternalityLP wrote: “No Man’s Sky is one of those games that just keeps on giving. I think I paid something like 20 euros for it back then, and almost 10 years later it’s still getting major new content.”
The update has also been well received on YouTube. User samu3lp88, for example, wrote: “When No Man’s Sky gets updates, I don’t think, ‘Oh nice, we needed that,’ but rather: ‘HELL YEAH!’”
Another user wondered what players did to deserve a studio like Hello Games, which is still releasing free updates nearly 10 years later.
Are there negative opinions too? Yes. Sean Murray, the founder of Hello Games, introduced the update on X. The top comment, with more than 100 likes, came from X user Henry VIII. He wrote: “Are you running out of ideas? I really hope you’re working on something better than this.”
Some No Man’s Sky fans agreed with him, saying they would have preferred different content, such as new ships or more interaction in deep space. Others replied that players should not complain about a free update and that the content looks like a nice extra addition to the base game.
What does Palworld say about the update? Palworld, the creature-collecting survival game, also took notice of the new update. Because it has suspicious similarities to Palworld, the game’s official X account wrote: “Hear me out a sec…”
That should not come as much of a surprise, though, because according to gamesradar.com, the developers are big fans of Pokémon and Palworld. Sean Murray also described the update as its own multiplayer game with a lot of depth, all within No Man’s Sky.
Although No Man’s Sky is nearly 10 years old, it remains one of the best survival games on Steam, PS5, and Xbox.
