Those who have seen the movies of Star Wars, of course, know Jabba the Hutt. However, his son, who has only appeared in Clone Wars so far, is somewhat lesser known. This will change in the next cinema film.
One does not want to imagine what a Hutt looks like during the conception of its offspring. Let us turn to the result instead. Jabba’s son is named Rotta and was born between 24 and 22 years before the Battle of Yavin in Episode 4.
So far, one mainly knew a story from his early childhood, which is not very flattering and portrays Rotta as a weak, pitiful specimen of his species. In Clone Wars, he is indeed kidnapped by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Behind this were Count Dooku and Rotta’s own uncle Ziro.
The aim of the operation was to disrupt the ongoing negotiations between the Hutts and the Republic. Jabba was to think that the Jedi and the republican forces had kidnapped his son. This plan went splendidly wrong, which became quite dangerous for Rotta himself.
A Sweet Worm
How did the kidnapping go? Rotta was still very small when the Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress kidnapped him on behalf of the Confederacy. She took the Hutt to the planet Teth, where she imprisoned him.
To the rescue rushed Anakin Skywalker and his then-apprentice Ahsoka Tano. In return, Jabba was to join the Republic. Of course, there was resistance: Upon arrival at Teth, Anakin and Ahsoka had to deal with battle droids until they fought their way to the B’omarr Monastery.
There, they found the little Rotta in a cell, whom Ahsoka referred to as “sweet.” He was even so puny that he fit into a backpack. They transported him in that. At the same time, they had to find out that Rotta had caught a severe cold during his captivity. His fever also rose.
The escape from the monastery was successful after further fights. Anakin and Ahsoka planned to have Rotta treated medically on a star cruiser. Unfortunately, this was currently in a battle, and the Twilight, a freighter piloted by the two Jedi, also came under fire.
Thus, they fled further to Tatooine. Still aboard the freighter, Ahsoka asked a medical droid for help. Luckily, there was a strengthening agent on board that the little Hutt took with protest. It probably saved his still young life.
After arriving on Tatooine, Ahsoka and Anakin had to face further battles before delivering Rotta to his father. Initially, he wanted to kill the Jedi but was then stopped by a message from Padmé Amidala, who informed him of Ziro’s betrayal.
The attempts by the Separatists to depict the Jedi as kidnappers and potential murderers of Rotta had failed.
Rotta is finally allowed to be strong soon
Did Rotta always remain that weak? The events from Clone Wars cast no particularly good light on the young Hutt. Although he may be lively and friendly, he is not very strong.
That could change soon: First images of the upcoming film The Mandalorian and Grogu show the Hutt in adult form. He stands in an arena holding two axes. He only resembles his father at first glance – you can see a detailed image exclusively at Empire.
Unlike the sluggish worm Jabba, Rotta appears very vital, physically strong, and determined. In the film, he will likely compete as a sort of gladiator against alien creatures, even fighting against the protagonist Din Djarin himself.
By the way, the character is voiced by Jeremy Allen White. The release of The Mandalorian and Grogu is on May 20, 2026. Then Rotta should finally get his deserved appearance as a powerful Hutt. Are you looking forward to the film? Feel free to let us know in the comments. Jabba himself has undergone some changes: One of the most important villains from Star Wars looked different in 1977 and had 3 versions in nearly 20 years
