Once again, hints for the 2 most eagerly awaited monsters in Pokémon GO have appeared. One detail is particularly interesting.
There is probably hardly a trainer who is not eagerly waiting for these two monsters: the Mega Evolutions of Mewtwo. The regular form of the monster is not only one of the most iconic Pokémon, which was even elemental in the first anime movie of the franchise, but also belongs to the absolute elite of attackers in the world of the popular pocket monsters.
There have been hints from official sources or through data mining in the past that indicated these evolutions. Now, further hints have emerged from the well-known data mining group PokeMiners, including an interesting detail.
New Images, New Hope
What kind of hints are these? The PokeMiners, who regularly scour the files of Pokémon GO and point out newly discovered assets such as images, texts, or sounds, have once again found hints regarding Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y and shared them on their Discord.
These include an image of each of the two evolutions. They also found 2 buttons that the game uses in special research to choose one of several branches. Here too, the two coveted monsters are each visible.

What do the buttons mean? While there have already been several hints regarding the two evolutions in the past, the regular form of the monster can also be found in the trailer for GO Fest 2026 and on merchandise for the event.
The two buttons that have appeared in the current leak indicate a branched research with the two evolutions. It is therefore possible that in a potential research about the evolutions, you will have to decide for one of the two forms and thus obtain necessary resources to trigger an evolution.
It was similar in the last 2 years at GO Fest with the fusions of Necrozma and the alternate forms of Zamazenta and Zacian. However, a ticket for the event was necessary for this.
It is therefore possible that for ticket holders, a branched research with the Mega Evolutions of Mewtwo will be available at GO Fest 2026.
How reliable is the information? Keep in mind that the information consists of assets that were found through data mining, and not of official announcements from Niantic.
Even though there are more and more hints regarding the Mega Evolutions and a release this year would fit well with the 10th anniversary of the game, it ultimately does not mean that the two forms will actually appear at GO Fest 2026.
