Currently, you can catch Salanga in Pokémon GO. Although it was supposed to be very exclusive, reports in the community are increasing that it is easier to obtain than expected.
At the moment, Pokémon GO is hosting the Environment Week 2026. In addition to the costumed Corasonn and the Shiny variant of Tentagra, one monster in particular should be interesting for many trainers: Salanga. The monster is debuting in the event and is catchable in the game for the first time.
So far, it seemed that only a few trainers would likely find Salanga at the event. There is said to be only a very specific area where the new monster appears. However, there are increasing hints in the community that you can obtain the monster easier than expected.
Seek and you shall find – maybe
Where should the monster be found? The official information about the event announced that you can only find Salanga in desert-like biomes. This caused frustration among many trainers, as this biome is likely to be difficult to find in some places, for example, in Germany.
Where does the community find the monster? Currently, there are some trainers on social media reporting where they have found the monster so far – besides deserts.
InsaneNutter reports on Reddit about several places in the United Kingdom where the monster has been found. He notes that all these locations are parks or areas of sports clubs.
In another post on Reddit, trainers report that they were able to find Salanga in large numbers even in the middle of cities, by the sea, and at airports.
Also, in a third post on Reddit, trainers report that the monster is found in cities, near water, and in parks.
Can I see where Salanga can be found? Some trainers express in the posts the suspicion that Salanga can be found in areas that are marked as scrub on OpenStreetMap.
The user glistening_viper posted on Reddit a link with which you can examine the OpenStreetMap for different areas. If you adjust the link slightly and use the search term “scrub”, you can display exactly these areas and see where they are in your vicinity.
For this, you just have to follow this link on overpass-turbo.eu, click “Run” at the top, and then search for the marked places in your area.
Are these information valid? Keep in mind that all this information consists of collected experiences from the community. As mentioned earlier, the monster should officially only appear in deserts. The large number of conflicting reports, however, gives hope that you can also find the monster outside of deserts.
