In a shooter on Steam, you unleash crazy combinations like in Balatro and blast targets with special bullets.
What kind of game is this? Lucky Shot is a mix of aim trainers like Aimlabs or Kovaaks and the indie hit Balatro. You get a pistol, stare at a wall where targets move back and forth, and shoot them down to earn points.
Each destroyed target gives hit points and also increases your multiplier, which boosts those points at the end of the round. If you shoot past a target into empty space, you lose a small part of your built-up multiplier. This means: The better you shoot, the higher the multiplier.
Between rounds, you equip various items so you can destroy targets even more effectively and earn multiples of the points through increased multipliers and similar effects.
With bursting targets and huge high scores to better aim
This is how a run in Lucky Shot goes: A run in Lucky Shot consists of a total of 6 stages, each with 3 rounds. To successfully complete a round, you must reach a certain target score like in Balatro, which increases with each completed round. Additionally, every three rounds starts a “boss round” with an increased target and special conditions that are meant to make reaching the target more challenging.
If you successfully finish a round, you receive a small amount of money and can then purchase various items at a vending machine. This way, you gradually build a loadout that causes your targets to literally burst, and you can further increase your score achieved in a round.
Instead of jokers, planet cards, etc., you buy charms at the vending machine in Lucky Shot that accompany your build throughout the entire run, energy drinks as temporary consumables (which correspond to tarot cards in Balatro), and bullets with special effects.
What you need to know about the release: Lucky Shot is being developed by the indie studio Deliver Games and is set to be released on August 7, 2026, for Steam. Until then, you can also test the game with a free demo on Steam.
A console release is currently not in sight, but as the developers announced on the Discord server of the studio, they have received approval from Sony for console development and are thus “one step closer” to bringing their games to PlayStation.
How does it improve your aim? The way the targets move in your field of view and how you have to shoot them down is the classic gameplay of aim trainers, but greatly simplified.
There aren’t hundreds of different modes that are directly focused on training, but it still is a form of aim practice in a very simplified, even more gamified sense. You improve your feel for target sensitivity and how far you need to move your mouse to cover a certain distance on the screen.
To build extreme precision, Lucky Shot is rather unsuitable. Due to the special effects of the ammunition, precise aiming becomes less important over the course of a run. In contrast to Aimlabs and KovaaKs, Lucky Shot is mainly a game and not a training tool.
The absolute indie highlight of summer 2026
This is what shooter nerd Dariusz says about Lucky Shot: I love shooters. I love Balatro. I will buy Lucky Shot as soon as it is out.
In preparation for this game presentation, I took a quick look at the demo and immediately completed an entire run. From the first round, the Balatro feeling came up, and I didn’t want to stop, just wanted to keep playing.
In my test run, I specifically focused on the special types of ammunition like exploding and ricocheting bullets and combined them with a charm that gave more points for each special bullet in the magazine when hitting a target. I also increased my multiplier with every energy drink I consumed.
As soon as my workday ends, I will try a few other weapons and charms.
