The signs are intensifying that Blizzard will soon announce a new variation of WoW Classic. Behind closed doors, the first Chosen Ones will get a glimpse of the Classic team’s new project shortly.
What is Blizzard showing to whom and where? The exact details are under a confidentiality clause, but the streamer and Classic enthusiast Xaryu revealed to his community a short while ago that he is heading to Blizzard’s headquarters in a few days (via N_Tys on X). Specifically, the content creator says:
I just got permission to tell you that I will be away for a while next week. That’s the bad news. Because I’m visiting Blizzard next week. That’s the good news. It’s about something I can’t talk about. But I’ll be there and I just got permission to tell you about it.
Xaryu has been playing WoW for many years and has made a name for himself mainly as a PvP competitor and passionate Classic player. The YouTuber (386,000 subscribers on the main channel, via YouTube) and streamer (778,970 followers on Twitch) even had an appearance at the Sauercrowd project of the German Twitch scene, when he was able to analyze a mistake of Chefstrobel in court.
As certain as the loot in the dungeon: WoW Classic Plus is coming
It’s clear that Blizzard will present a new Classic project at the upcoming on-site event if content creators like Xaryu are among the invitees. This is also supported by various other hints indicating that the WoW developers are currently working on a Classic Plus variant of World of Warcraft:
- The most important clue was given earlier this year by WoW head Holly Longdale, who during the “State of Azeroth” on YouTube gave a huge announcement for 2026 to WoW Classic fans but was interrupted mid-sentence just as she was about to get more specific. That was very likely a teaser for the upcoming BlizzCon in September, where WoW Classic was also announced back then.
- With Turtle WoW, a private server that offered its own version of WoW Classic Plus with great success has just been dealt with.
- There is still a significant gap in the roadmap for WoW Classic in Q4 2026.
- Blizzard has already surveyed what players would expect from a WoW Classic Plus and new content for level 60.
- In China, the Titan-Reforged servers are already live with a Classic Plus variant that combines the high-level content of Vanilla, Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King into a single endgame cycle in an adapted form.
When will the public announcement follow? BlizzCon 2026 runs from September 12 to 13. It seems certain that the developers will reveal the next plans for WoW Classic there. Whether these will actually go live in Q4 2026 or only in 2027 may also depend on the feedback Blizzard receives at the on-site event in the coming days. What do you think?
