In Destiny 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia), a PvP expert currently recommends an unusual perk for the popular weapon category hand cannons. This is said to greatly benefit controller players.
This is what the expert recommends: The Destiny YouTuber Drewskys titles his latest video translated as “Sliding is the best perk on hand cannons”.
Most Destiny players are not aware of “Sliding” as a possible weapon perk, at least when it comes to hand cannons.
Why Drewsky makes this recommendation and on which weapons the rare perk appears, we will consider in this article.
This is what the perk does: “Sliding” has several functions. All bonuses while the Guardian is sliding or afterward:
- While sliding, the weapon reloads from reserve
- You temporarily gain more stability (after sliding)
- You temporarily gain more range (after sliding)
The improvements last about 3 seconds and are reactivated with each new slide. With hand cannons, the range boost is about 1-1.5 meters.
What makes “Sliding” so good on hand cannons? Hand cannons are considered the favorite weapons of many Guardians. They are especially the first choice when it comes to primary weapons in the Crucible. Statistics show this over and over again (via Destinytracker).
However, controller players often struggle with the heavy recoil of the revolvers. Since the changes to hand cannons, range is not as important anymore, and stability has taken precedence.
Sliding also slightly increases range, but the greatest benefit for controller players is the temporarily improved stability. As Drewsky points out, recoil after sliding is virtually non-existent.
Sliding has changed what I value in hand cannons. And especially how hand cannons feel on the controller.”

During the duration of the perk, it’s easily possible to land 3 headshots. No recoil control needs to be applied, according to the expert. This means you do not have to correct the crosshair or anything like that.
As many players secure the Crucible with shotguns as a special weapon, sliding has already become second nature for them. Now the primary weapon benefits from it as well.
Sliding only appears on a few hand cannons
If you take a look at the Destiny database light.gg, you will notice that Sliding can only “roll” on very few hand cannons. On the 150 models recommended by Drewsky, there are actually only 2 options.
These are the two 150 hand cannons you will find:
- Spare Rations (Spare Rations) – You can obtain this kinetic weapon through completed Gambit matches or in the Reckoning.
- Waking Vigil (Waking Vigil) – You can find this energy weapon in the Dreaming City or farm it specifically in the Menagerie.
Why these hand cannons in particular? In the current sandbox, the 150 models stand out among hand cannons. These include the Thorn or the “Bube Königin König 3” with its cumbersome name.
They combine good TTK (0.8 seconds) and intrinsically give a speed boost. On PC, these weapons are already meta. With Sliding, this could soon be the case for controller players too, according to Drewsky.
The Spare Rations is already a strong alternative to the 180 hand cannons on consoles. These are characterized by excellent precision and virtually no recoil. However, they kill a bit slower.
What do you think about the previously overlooked perk Sliding – is it a real insider tip or overrated for you? What do you prefer to focus on when using hand cannons?
