The Anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners is getting a second season, and fans have now been able to catch a glimpse of a new character. Given the show’s reputation, they are already worried.
While there is still no release date for season 2, the official website announced back in July 2025 that the sequel to Edgerunners is in production.
Equipped with a completely new story and characters, it brings the audience back to Night City. One of these new characters was recently showcased at the Annecy Animation Festival. A picture of it is currently making the rounds in the community, even making hardened Cyberpunk fans anxious.
Night City through a new lens
What does the picture show? It features a young-looking character with blonde hair. In their hands, they hold a camcorder, aimed at a scene that is not visible in the image. We have embedded a post from X.com that shows the character:
Whether this is one of the new protagonists or just an insignificant secondary character is unclear. However, the community is already pondering the fate of the character. The first season of Edgerunners was not shy about shamelessly killing off important characters – don’t worry, we won’t spoil who met their end here.
On x.com, the community shares their concerns:
- “Is he about to record some of the most traumatic stuff ever?”, wonders Lover Boy Leon.
You all know he’s going to die in the most brutal way imaginable
, predicts agarthanwhitemonster.- “My heart is breaking already,” writes Ryan, suggesting a grim fate for the character.
- “Night City makes no exceptions. A child or a teenager can just as easily lose their life as anyone else,” states zharng.
Some users hope that the character will play an important role and take on the role of the so-called “Media” or “Reporter” from the underlying pen-and-paper role-playing game. This is among the best systems of its kind.
Others draw comparisons to the film Nightcrawler, in which a ruthless journalist goes to great lengths to film the worst crimes. The idea that something similar could happen in Night City is suggestive, given the harshness of the world and the questionable morals of its inhabitants.
