A new developer update for Aion 2 has just gone live, in which the developers from NCSoft discuss the global version of the MMORPG, set to launch in September 2026. MeinMMO summarizes the key points for you.
What does the new update reveal? During the summer showcase in Korea, NCSoft already presented what changes are planned for Aion 2. It was unclear whether these adjustments would be included from the start in the global version. Now we know: The announced adjustments to the payment model will be in effect from day one for us as well:
- The current subscriptions will be merged into one subscription, with the new price expected to be around 15 US dollars (which is half of the current subscription costs). Anyone wanting access to trade and the auction house will need this subscription.
- The duration of the subscription will increase from 28 days to 30 days.
- The developers are talking about just one Battle Pass, with a free and a paid path.
What was announced during the summer showcase but not specifically mentioned in the video:
- The cap for dungeon tickets will be removed. Anyone who wants can therefore explore the dungeons of Aion 2 indefinitely and grind rewards this way.
- Pets and skins will no longer be purchased for just one character but for the entire account. Furthermore, pets will have an automated loot collection function (previously, the function had to be triggered manually).
- All instanced PvP content will use normalized gear – the actual gear of your character will not matter there.
What the developers are leaving out is the fact that you can use real money currency to shop in the auction house, allowing for much quicker equipment upgrades than if you were farming all materials or the non-real money currency on your own. We currently assume that this will also be possible in the global version.

Easygoing or silly – Aion 2 does not hide its roots
What else do the developers reveal? Aside from the videos mentioned at the beginning, the developers mainly aim to introduce all MMO fans who have never played Aion to the world of Atreia and part of the lore – for example, how the Abyss was created or why the two factions of the game are fighting.
The goal for Aion 2 is, according to the developers, to implement the original version of the first Aion now without compromises that were necessary due to technical limitations at the time. Atreia, for example, is now about 36 times larger, and you can explore the entire game world without loading screens, either flying with your wings or swimming underwater.
At launch, you will have the choice between 8 classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, and Chanter. They take on fixed roles within the Holy Trinity of tank, healer, and DPS. For example, anyone wishing to tank should create a Gladiator or Templar.
Another topic is the visual customization options for your characters. The developers emphasize that there will be no special adjustments for the western market here – concerning the sometimes quite revealing or silly outfits of the heroes. If you wish to permanently keep the look of a piece of equipment, you can extract it for your collection and further customize it through the dyeing system.
You can further express yourself individually through the choice of your wings or your pet and mount collection. Consequently, you will find many cosmetic options in the in-game shop of the MMORPG.
What’s next? The responsible parties at NCSoft have not revealed a specific release date again. However, regular developer updates are now expected to appear until September, in which they want to present the MMORPG to the western community in more detail. It is clear, by the way, that Aion 2 will initially focus on only one platform in the west: Aion 2 is coming this year, separating itself from one of its biggest weaknesses
