Batman is not only at home in cinemas and comics. A strong animated series has now received its second season and proves that the bat can still shine in a smaller setting.
Which series is it? While movie fans still have to wait a bit for Batman’s next appearance, the bat is back on the home screen hunting criminals. And it’s in the series Batman: Caped Crusader.
The first season premiered in August 2024, and now the second season follows, which again contains 10 episodes. Each episode lasts between 24 and 26 minutes. The premise of the animated series brings Batman back to his past in the 1940s, which should particularly please fans of the old comics.

What is Caped Crusader about? The series deals with the beginnings of the character, who was invented in 1939 by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Accordingly, the story takes place in the 1940s and focuses on Batman as a detective.
The series features a young Bruce Wayne, who is just starting out and faces a Gotham City defined by crime, corruption, and suffering. Other well-known characters like Alfred, Catwoman, or Jim Gordon also appear.
Caped Crusader is not just any new production under DC’s umbrella. The series comes from Bruce Timm. If the name doesn’t ring a bell: He was one of the creators of Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. So productions that continue to enjoy great popularity.
Also, the second season of his current project seems to hit the mark again. On Rotten Tomatoes, 24 critics give a score of 92%. Users rate a bit lower, but still give 83%.
What makes the series so good? Especially praised in the second season is that there is once again an improvement over the first. Amon Warmann from Empire Magazine particularly highlights the “bold new interpretation of the Joker.”
Archi Sengupta from LeisureByte finds that the story arcs of individual characters are even stronger and the stylish images with a noir touch would again convince.
Overall, the consensus is: those who want to catch a slightly different view of Batman should give Caped Crusader a chance.
