First screenshots of a mysterious stranger in Valheim have appeared on reddit, seemingly observing the players. The first theories about who this might be are already circulating online.
Shortly after its release in Early Access on Steam, the survival game Valheim is enjoying great popularity. At peak times, over 130,000 players were online simultaneously, catapulting the Viking adventure into the top 10 on Steam.
How the mysterious figure looks: The mysterious figure wears a black robe and holds a kind of staff in their right hand. Their aura is surrounded by white smoke. On reddit, the user “Alien_effigy” posted a screenshot of the appearance:
Players speculate: Is it the god Odin?
What players are considering: In Norse mythology, Odin is the father of the gods and visits the mortal world as a wanderer. The world of Valheim was created by Odin and serves as a prison for his enemies and a place to train his warriors. It is quite conceivable that the mysterious stranger is Odin himself.
What else supports this: In another post on reddit, the user “higgscribe” writes that Odin paid them homage after they defeated the third boss. The screenshot shows the mysterious figure standing in the background. It seems like Odin wants to thank his warriors.
On reddit, some players further describe that the stranger has a single glowing eye. These statements are confirmed by a screenshot showing the stranger with a glowing eye. The description fits Odin, as he sacrificed an eye to see into the future.
Where can I find the figure? Many appearances of the figure so far indicate a connection to the swamp biome. MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus has already encountered the stranger in a grassland near a swamp biome and some mountains. He describes the encounter as follows:
“He suddenly stood right in front of me and then disappeared into black smoke after a few seconds.”
Who else could it be? In the swamp biome, there is a ghostly appearance known as the Wraith, which wears dark hoods and looks similar. However, Wraiths lack the eye and the staff. Additionally, they are aggressive.
On reddit, there are also some players who believe the figure to be the Grim Reaper. User TextBookHuman writes on reddit:
I believe that is Harald. I read about a rune stone about Harald who lost an eye due to a stag and needed a walking stick after battling a duck. The figure also appeared next to the stone.
There is little to suggest that the mysterious stranger is not Odin. The appearance and manifestation indicate that the father of the gods himself is visiting the players to witness their progress.
