What kind of game is this? Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most popular MMORPGs here in the West. It started weak in 2011 and only won over players’ hearts after the major overhaul “A Realm Reborn” in 2013.
With regular content updates and expansions like the latest Dawntrail, the MMORPG currently offers a lot of content, especially for new players. They can play up to level 80 and the content of the Shadowbringers expansion for some time now.
The MMORPG is reminiscent of classic Japanese RPGs, which is due to the strong focus on the story. In the endgame, you’ll find many tricky raids and quests. However, you must contend with the combat system, which feels slow and sluggish, especially at the beginning.
What content does it offer? Final Fantasy XIV offers everything an MMORPG heart desires:

What do the reviews on Steam say? Overall, Final Fantasy XIV has 78,595 ratings, with 86 percent being positive. The 389 reviews submitted in the last 30 days are 80 percent positive. It’s time for Square Enix to move on from the current Dawntrail expansion.
How many players does it have on Steam? In the past 30 days, an average of 20,544 players were online. The peak during this time was 35,063 concurrent players. The all-time high stands at 95,102 concurrent players. Since there is a separate launcher for FFXIV and you can also play the MMORPG on consoles, the total number of active players is higher.
In total, about 40 million players are said to have visited Eorzea so far – but due to the freely available content, these are not just buyers and subscribers.
Who is the MMORPG for? FFXIV is primarily aimed at fans of Final Fantasy and players who enjoy visiting dungeons and raids or have a strong focus on story.
Despite the slow start and criticism of Dawntrail, the MMORPG is among the best in the genre, and especially due to the changes to the free-to-play model, every MMO fan should at least try it once.
