Rank 6 – Old School RuneScape
Setting: Fantasy | Developer: Jagex | | Platform: PC, iOS, Android | Release Date: February 22, 2013 | Model: Free2Play | Steam Rating: 82% Positive
What kind of game is this? Old School RuneScape is the older version of RuneScape, which has since developed in a very different direction. The game was released in 2013, based on the version that RuneScape had in 2007.
Since then, the old title has been expanded with new content, still relying on the same virtues of teamwork, grind, and a “hack and slash” control. Moreover, every new feature must receive 75 percent approval from the players before being implemented by the developers.
What content does it offer? Similar to RuneScape, the older version focuses on:
- Dungeons
- Farming Equipment
- 23 Life Skills
- Mini-Games
- PvP Content
What do the Steam reviews say? So far, Old School RuneScape has received 20,475 ratings. These are 82 percent positive. Over the past 30 days, the 165 new reviews have reached 81 percent. Thus, Old School RuneScape currently has a significantly more positive momentum in terms of Steam ratings than RuneScape.
How many players does it have on Steam? In the last 30 days, there have been an average of about 1,121 players online. The peak during this time was 1,797 players active simultaneously. Most RuneScape players are likely playing outside of Steam: Ancient MMORPG breaks 250,000 simultaneous players, even though the developers have raised prices.
Who is this MMORPG worth it for? If you’re looking for a true old school MMORPG both visually and gameplay-wise, then this is absolutely right for you. Although Old School RuneScape doesn’t look great graphically, it offers a large amount of content and has a huge, helpful fanbase. However, you need a monthly subscription to truly experience all the content. By the way: There is a new CEO who promises: “Never microtransactions”
