What kind of game is it?  RuneScape is one of the oldest still active MMORPGs, first released in early 2001. You experience many adventures in a fantasy world and explore the ancient legends and tales while gods weave dark plans.

You decide whether to explore deep dungeons, fight monsters and loot treasures, or provide adventurers with weapons as a blacksmith. You can even build your own farm and live there.

RuneScape offers classic MMORPG fare, taking you on a journey back to the origins of the genre.

What content does it offer? In RuneScape, you can spend your time in various ways:

• You can explore dungeons with other players
• Farm equipment
• Level some of the countless life skills
• Experience PvP

The special thing about it is that the content has not been adapted to “modern games”. There are no solo contents or an extensive story. Instead, exploration and the group dynamic play an important role.

What do the Steam reviews say? The MMORPG was released on Steam only in October 2020 and has received 26,972 reviews since then. 81 percent of those are positive – in March the value was still at 82 percent. Currently, only 66 percent of the most recent reviews (120) are positive.

One reason for this may be the recent price increases for the subscription. Many new players are also put off by the outdated technology. Currently, the “Road to Restoration” is underway, which aims to make the MMORPG more attractive for new players – among other things, with a more modern look for the avatars.

How many players does it have on Steam? In the last 30 days, there were an average of 1,766 players online and a peak of 2,578. Since RuneScape has existed outside of Steam for decades, the total player numbers are significantly higher. The all-time high is 12,508 concurrent players.

Who would enjoy this MMORPG? If you are looking for a classic MMORPG with a lot of content, but also a lot of grinding, you should check out RuneScape. Not without reason does this game, which has been continuously developed for nearly 20 years, still manage to excite its fanbase. However, the movement and combat systems are somewhat outdated. The graphics are not outstanding either. If you want, you can also play RuneScape on iOS and Android.
