What kind of game is this? Project Gorgon is an indie MMORPG that aims to bring you back to the times of EverQuest 1 and Asheron’s Call. There are no predefined classes, and the combat system relies on classic tab-targeting.

Additionally, the MMORPG places great importance on exploration of the world and discovering things for yourself. Project Gorgon launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2015 and was officially released on January 29, 2026, after a long early access phase. What do the reviews on Steam say? Even in the early access phase, Project Gorgon was somewhat of a critic’s darling and celebrated strong 86 percent positive reviews for a long time. After the official release in January 2026, it seemed that the final version would also be well received by players. However, in recent weeks, the reviews have notably turned more negative – in the last 30 days, they are at 72 percent.

This has caused the overall rating to drop from 86 percent positive to now 81 percent, based on 4,697 reviews. One reason for this may be the community’s anger over a member of the Project Gorgon team who allegedly abused their power and issued unjustified bans. This employee was moved to another area due to the criticism (via Reddit), but this beef has left its mark.

How many players does it have on Steam? In the last 30 days, an average of nearly 362 players played Project: Gorgon, with a peak of 655 simultaneously online. Who is this MMORPG worth it for? If you want to experience a gaming experience like in the days of Everquest 1 again or just want to see how an MMORPG plays that relies on the classic virtues from the 1990s, you should take a look. However, the graphics are not particularly modern. And in January 2025, there was a sad loss within the team.
