In a trailer, Nvidia presented the new open-world RPG The Vernyhorn on Steam and showcased how good the title looks. However, the gameplay is also expected to impress.
What kind of game is this? Vernyhorn is an open-world RPG that is said to be inspired by classic RPGs. You play as a main character who makes their way through the world while experiencing a very minimalist HUD.
This is meant to allow you to dive deeper into the story and the character than is usually possible with typical RPGs that have countless menus.
There are also elements in the game that you would find in interactive films. A screenshot on Steam, for example, shows the selection of an attack sequence during a surprise attack. You determine how this attack should unfold.

More than just beautiful
What can be expected from the gameplay? The Vernyhorn blends elements from various genres into your character’s adventure. The battles are said to be hardcore and reminiscent of Dark Souls, while there is also a survival system where you need to manage not only your health points but also warmth and your mental state.
There is allegedly no prescribed path that is indicated, instead, exploring the world and searching for the goal are part of the gameplay. At the same time, the story is supposed to accompany your character in finding their personal place in the world.
How does fighting work? The battles are said to feel just as real as the story. That’s why the developers hired real professional sword fighters who used motion capture to record the movements for the game.
However, the fighting in Vernyhorn is not about honor, but about survival, as the developers explain. Kicking and shoving, using all body parts like in an MMA fight, is part of achieving victory.
Accordingly, the battles are said to be brutal, the developers reveal on Steam.
So far, there is no release date for The Vernyhorn. Behind the title is just a small team, which makes it unclear when to expect it. However, Nvidia highlighting how beautiful the game is gives hope that the other promises can also be kept.
