The New Jobs
What will the new level cap of 8.0 be? The new maximum level will be raised from 100 to 110.
What new jobs will there be in Final Fantasy XIV 8.0? At the Fan Festival in the USA, it was announced that there will be two new jobs. Specifically, Evercold is expected to introduce one Defender (Tank) and one physical ranged attacker (Ranged DPS).
At the Fan Festival in Berlin in July 2026, the Defender named Bastion was introduced. He wields a hybrid of shields, claws, and guns on both arms and provides shields and healing for his teammates.
The New Defender: The Bastion
You can get an initial impression of the Bastion here:
What is known about the Bastion? So far, the following information has been revealed:
- Role: (Main) Tank
- Weapon: Skyltborg (Two shields with claws and guns)
- Starting level: 90
- Starting quest: Limsa Lominsa
- Combat mode: Evolved mode only
- Support abilities: Protection and healing
- Origin: Aerslaent in the Northern Void
In the job trailer, a wider range of ranged attacks can also be seen than what is typically expected from defenders. Whether all other defenders will also receive more ranged attacks is currently unknown.
The New Ranged Fighter
The specific physical ranged fighter will likely be announced at the upcoming Fan Festival in Tokyo. However, the extended trailer may already hint at it. The new pink-haired Miqo’te Visna, who wields a glowing blue staff and has a bird of prey with her, could also have been the first teaser shown.
Raids & Collaborations in Evercold
What collaboration will there be for the new alliance raids? At the Fan Festival in the USA, a new alliance raid series (24-player) was announced: EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire. Similar to the Nier raids in Shadowbringers, these contents will be created in cooperation – this time with Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Historically, they consist of 3 raids with several bosses, released in different patches. Mahiro Maeda will be onboard, supporting the FFXIV team as a special guest artist and designer for the collaboration.
You can see an initial teaser here:
What new raids will there be? With Evercold, there will naturally be a raid series again. It is expected to consist of 12 raids, which you can tackle with 8 players each, released in 4-packs over the patches.
This time, the theme of the raid series will be a collaboration with the remake of Final Fantasy VII, running under the name “Beyond the Life Stream” and beginning with Patch 8.1.

For the collaboration, the teams of both parts are working closely together and promise a particularly story-heavy quest series around the upcoming contents. We were able to speak with Director Naoki Hamaguchi during the Fan Fest, who oversees FF7, and ask him about the collaboration.

New Difficulty Level for Raids
With Patch 8.0, raids will receive a third difficulty level between normal and epic mode. It is designed to make it easier for players to start and bridge the large gap in difficulty between the two previous modes. Veterans can skip the new mode and continue to play the epic mode directly after the story mode.
There are no changes to the rewards of the epic mode. Instead, in the new difficulty level, there will be seasonal gear and materials to upgrade seasonal and story gear, to ease entry into the Epic Mode. More details on the system are expected to be presented by the developers in an upcoming live Producer Letter.
