The question of which movie from Harry Potter is the best can only be answered subjectively. Main actor Daniel Radcliffe has ranked the individual parts against each other and has come to a clear conclusion.
There are eight films in the main series of Harry Potter, which vary quite a bit in their style and tone. While the first two parts still seem childish and fairytale-like, the tone becomes noticeably darker from part 3 onwards.
Every fan has their own favorite. But what does main actor Daniel Radcliffe actually think? After all, he was directly involved in the making of the films. In a conversation with Josh Horowitz, of which you can see an excerpt on YouTube, the actor was asked about his favorites.
Specifically, he had to rank two films in a staggered competition against each other until the final, where it was about places 1 and 2.
What does Radcliffe think about the remake of Harry Potter in series form? Here you can see the teaser:
No chance for the fan favorite
How did the ranking go? Host Horowitz presented Radcliffe with two films from the series at a time, and the winner moved on to the next round. Early on, he had to choose between part 3, The Prisoner of Azkaban, and part 4, The Goblet of Fire,.
Presumably, many fans would have voted for part 3, which is often mentioned as a favorite, such as in a poll on IMDb. However, Radcliffe preferred The Goblet of Fire:
I know everyone wants me to say “Azkaban.” I know it’s the same for everyone else, but I love what I got to do in the fourth film. It was great. I choose “The Goblet of Fire.”
By the way, The Half-Blood Prince received little love, as it lost out to Order of the Phoenix. The 6th part is at the bottom of Radcliffe’s ranking, which, according to him, is due to personal reasons that the actor did not elaborate on.
With this opinion, he is likely not alone. The adaptation of the sixth book is regularly criticized, especially by readers, for leaving out essential scenes, particularly those dealing with Voldemort’s past. Such discussions can be found, for example, on Reddit.
In the end, the ranking had part 4 facing off against part 8, with Radcliffe having a clear ultimate winner: The Deathly Hallows Part 2, or film 8.
That part 4 made it so far surprises the actor himself: “Wow! I find that fascinating. I wouldn’t have thought that ‘The Goblet of Fire‘ would become my second favorite film.”
With a slightly different configuration of the films in contention, the ranking might have turned out differently, but Radcliffe seems satisfied with place 1.
