Arcane mages are by far the worst specialization in World of Warcraft. At least for a few hours, they were completely useless.
When the servers in World of Warcraft are taken down for maintenance from Tuesday night to Wednesday, it is due to the weekly maintenance work. Occasionally, this also comes with a small hotfix. Minor balance changes and bug fixes are often deployed at this time.
But this week, mages faced an entirely new problem: For a few hours, they got to experience what true mana addiction feels like.
What kind of mana addiction is this? Those who logged into the American WoW realms after the maintenance and played an Arcane Mage must have looked quite bewildered. Because in the very first fight, not a single spell seemed to work and the character could only desperately cry out: “Not enough mana!”
However, drinking water or casting the mana regeneration spell Invocation provided only brief relief. Because the mana bar dramatically emptied itself all on its own again.
The Arcane Mage was simply unplayable, as it consumed all its mana within seconds. There was no natural mana regeneration.
What exactly was the bug? The hotfix set the mana regeneration of Arcane Mages to a negative value. So instead of regenerating a certain amount of mana per second, it was deducted instead.
This is how the community reacts: In the WoW subreddit, users are having a great time laughing about this bug. Even though there are a few valid critics who argue that such a devastating bug should never go live, most are more amused by the nature of the problem.
- “Honestly, this is just funny. I can’t even be mad about it.” – TheWorclown
- “Now you can finally feel what the Nightborne have experienced.” – Crafty-cs
- “Once again, I thank the NA community for being the beta testers for us [in Europe].” – garteninc
Has such a problem occurred before? Yes. A very similar problem affected healers many years ago. In their case, however, the bug was limited to the time during combat, so they only lost their mana while the fight lasted. So they had it a little “better” than their arcane magical colleagues today.
Fortunately, the bug was fixed within a few hours and a new hotfix was deployed. Otherwise, mages would have looked quite outdated during raids and dungeons in the evening hours.
