MeinMMO shows you the most important characters from George R.R. Martin's books that were omitted in Game of Thrones. At number 1 is the Young Griff.
The story of “Young Griff” is anything but simple, but it could become one of the most drastic differences between books and series. But let’s start from the beginning:
The last Targaryen ruler was Aerys II, the Mad King. His children were Rhaegar, as well as Viserys and Daenerys, whom we of course know from the series. Rhaegar had two children, Rhaenys and Aegon.
According to our current knowledge, both the Mad King, as well as Rhaegar and his two children were killed. However, in the books, there is a suspicion that Rhaegar’s son Aegon may have survived.
It is said that Varys swapped the infant Aegon shortly before the sacking of King’s Landing for the baby of a Tanner. While this foreign baby was killed, the real prince Aegon was secretly smuggled to Essos. There he grew up under the guidance of Jon Connington, the former Hand of the King.
In the books, it remains open so far whether the Young Griff is indeed Aegon Targaryen or just a fraud. If the story is true, it would have enormous implications – especially for Daenerys. She would no longer be the “rightful ruler,” as Aegon would come before her in the line of succession.

Especially Dorne was heavily altered in the series. Much to the frustration of most book fans. Dorne is actually one of the coolest and strongest regions of the Seven Kingdoms. However, this is not really conveyed in the series.
