Arianne is the oldest child of Doran Martell and a pretty cool character. She is not only temperamental and a gifted fighter but also has a knack for politics.
According to Dornish law, which makes no distinction in gender for such matters, she is the official heir of House Martell. However, for a long time, Arianne believed that her father would bypass her in favor of her brother Quentin. This was mainly due to a letter about Quentin’s planned marriage to Daenerys that she intercepted.
Thus, she began to devise her own plans. For that, she kidnapped Myrcella Baratheon to place her on the Iron Throne as the eldest child of Cersei according to Dornish tradition. However, her plan went horribly wrong. Doran’s guards captured Myrcella, and a knight even attempted to kill her to incite a war against the Lannisters.
At least it led to Doran finally including his daughter in all the plans. Originally, Arianne was supposed to secure the Targaryen alliance by marrying Viserys. After Viserys’s death, that was, of course, no longer possible, and the task was handed over to Quentin.
