As we noted earlier in the list, Sansa was not married to Ramsay Bolton in the series. Instead, this unfortunate fate befell her friend Jeyne Pool.
Jeyne was the daughter of the steward of Winterfell, grew up alongside Sansa, and was her best friend as a child. After the murder of Ned Stark and his men – including Jeyne’s father – Jeyne was handed over to Littlefinger, who imprisoned her and turned her into a prostitute. But that’s not all.
To consolidate the Boltons’ power in the North, the Lannisters wanted to arrange a marriage between Ramsay and Arya Stark. However, since the real Arya had disappeared without a trace, Jeyne was simply passed off as Arya. Thus, she was married to Ramsay, who abused and tortured her. Only with Theon’s help could she finally escape.
This entire storyline was transferred to Sansa in the series, which, of course, has enormous implications for her story.
