For Steam, there is now a small but fine update. Look forward to wishlist categories, an improved search, and a new feature for gifting games.
What’s new on Steam? Last night (on July 22, 2026), the Steam officials presented various innovations of the popular platform. Here are the highlights:
- You can now create your own categories for your wishlist to filter and find specific titles more quickly. The options for wishlist notifications can be assigned to the respective categories. You can also share your entire wishlist or just specific categories with others.
- The search function on the wishlist page has received some love. Autocomplete provides faster results.
- Steam will now notify you when a game on your wishlist has a demo version available.
- The “Buy as a guest” function is now not only for digital gift cards and hardware purchases but also for all games offered on Steam. Gift cards and games can now also be sent via email when the recipient’s Steam account is unknown, and cross-region gifting is possible.
“They just can’t stop winning”
How does the community react to the update? In several community discussions, many players celebrate the new update for Steam.

The fact that demos are also displayed on the wishlist is great.”
