Daedalic is a German studio, which is mainly known for point-and-click adventures. Their attempt to develop a Gollum game with the Lord of the Rings license failed miserably and the game was a huge flop. Now the studio is closing its development department.
Who is Daedalic Entertainment? Daedalic is a Hamburg-based studio that became famous for point-and-click adventures like Edna bricht aus or Deponia.
This year saw the release of a huge blockbuster in the form of Gollum. A 3D action-adventure in the Lord of the Rings universe. The game was released on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
What happened? Instead of being a huge success, the game disappointed and had a catastrophic launch. Both from a technical and gameplay perspective, the game did not convince. A tough release considering how big the license is. It was so bad that Daedalic even apologized:

What happens now? Daedalic will stop developing games themselves and will focus only on publishing other games. Games like Unrailed or Shadow Tactics belong to their publishing portfolio.
As GamesWirtschaft reports, 25 of the 90 employees will lose their jobs. The second game in the Lord of the Rings universe will also be canceled. The survival spinoff Surviving Deponia will be released normally, as it is not developed by Daedalic.
For the German gaming market, this is of course a hard blow, as one of the larger German developers is lost with Daedalic. In the indie sector, however, German developers are achieving success:
Diablo 4 has been playable for a month now. MyMMO editor Benedict Grothaus has been playing diligently like hundreds of thousands of other players until a “wall” eventually came. His decision: a new character is needed, and that changed everything.
I had a lot of fun with my first character. With my sorceress, I experienced Diablo 4 anew, checked out all the endgame content, and spent hours tweaking builds until I was finally satisfied with my strong Blizzard build.
Even so, I actually enjoyed that, but there was one big problem: The nightmare dungeons, where most of the endgame grind is supposed to occur, just weren’t really worth it. I had a lot of fun, but they were too hard for what they provided. Or rather, what they didn’t provide.
I was very satisfied with my sorceress, but my new barbarian is just as much fun. Here’s my Blizzard build from the main:

Explore the whole world without “obligations”
After completing the campaign, any character can skip it and start in “Adventure” mode. Here, all capitals are unlocked, and you can complete the “Bounties” from the whispering tree, grind dungeons, search for world bosses, and more.
Unlike the first playthrough, there are hardly any limits. Aside from the fact that enemies in certain areas have a higher “minimum level,” the whole world is open. This means for me, I don’t have to follow the story, I can do what I want.
I started a barbarian as a second character. It is considered quite bad at the beginning. For me, that wasn’t the case, because through my main, I had already gained significant stat boosts and skill points through realm progression. The start is much easier.
Every new character starts with 10 skill points and at least 75 in each stat when you have visited all statues of Lilith.
My focus was much more on gameplay during the second playthrough. I paid more attention to how I perceive the world, what I actually want to do when there is no story.
This is how I discovered Diablo 4 anew. Instead of following the slow Lorath or breaking Elias’ nose for the 12th time, or falling in love with Lilith again and then having to betray her, I simply go beat up demons. That’s what you ultimately play Diablo for.
And that’s not even the biggest advantage.
When leveling again, I was also able to put our own tips to the test and am extremely satisfied:

Since I have already completed everything that one “must” do with my sorceress, I was able to focus on the essentials with the barbarian, which is: looting and leveling. And here comes the system of shared loot for all characters into play:

As a nice extra, there are also a few new titles. I actually thought this feature was pretty dumb, but since my sorceress can be a deadly spider, I’m always looking for new, cool combinations. That’s why I play my barbarian Brigitte, the brutal brutalist… even if it’s rather because a colleague really likes alliteration and I wanted to make him smile.
I’ve almost completely filled the Codex of power now, mostly by just leveling. For new bounties from the whispering tree, I always selected the dungeons whose aspect I have not yet received. This makes it much easier to build for all classes later if I want to play more.
The only disadvantage I have discovered so far is gems. I no longer collect them out of principle, but the ones my sorceress has left, I cannot equip due to being at too low a level. And gold unfortunately remains very scarce. That’s quite annoying especially at level 50 with the new character.
But just diving back into new class mechanics was a lot of fun for me, and I look forward to being able to do that again in Season 1. But right now, I don’t want to, so I can leave some new things for what’s to come.
And I still need to leave some expertise for the others in the team here, in case I don’t end up playing Diablo 4 like an MMO and stick with one hero:

What does the ribbon mean? Although trainers in the comments have various funny explanations for the little ribbon, it actually has a very important function that has only recently been added to the game.

The Reddit user “Keniisu” writes in a post on the social network that he has a problem with his PC – it crashes. To find out what is causing his computer to crash, the user opened the PC and removed the CPU cooler.

Players in Destiny 2 are currently struggling with frustrating connection and stability issues. As discontent in the community has grown, Bungie has responded with an unusually open insight into the causes and proposed solutions. MeinMMO tells you when it will finally get better.
These are the current issues with Destiny 2: For months, Guardians have been plagued by persistent server and stability problems in Destiny 2.
This includes connection drops with the message “Destiny 2 servers are being contacted.”
Error codes like Weasel, Baboon, or Mongoose, which can kick you from the game and even lead to a temporary, unwarranted ban because you effectively “abandoned” a competitive game mode by being kicked out.
Matchmaking issues that turned Destiny 2 into a single-player game, as players could no longer form fireteams.
Due to this multitude of incidents, Bungie has recently had to implement unexpected emergency maintenance more frequently to stabilize the game.
While this has temporarily resolved the issues, it hasn’t really reduced the frustration of the Guardians. On the contrary.

Destiny 2: “Season of the Depth” lets Guardians dive into the water
“No process that happens overnight”
This is what Bungie says about server stability and issues: In the current TWiD (“This Week in Destiny” blog) from June 29, Bungie has now responded in detail to the current server problems of Destiny 2 for the first time and has informed us as openly as never before about the current state of server technology.
They had both good and bad news for the Guardians.
The good news: Bungie knows which system is causing the problems. It is the Destiny key service “Claims”.
“Claims” transfers all player data between the various Bungie servers and usually ensures smooth communication between players, servers, and other components so that every kill, every bullet, and every glimmer unit is sent to the correct recipient.
If the communication channels of “Claims” to other services are disrupted, it can lead to error codes like Weasel or Baboon. However, a simple restart of the service is often not enough to fix the problems.
Although “Claims” is just one of many services that are constantly updated and maintained, the improvements made to this service are a crucial step in addressing both immediate and all potential future issues.
By the end of the year, many buttons still need to be pressed on the Destiny servers.
The bad news: Improving the stability of “Claims” and Destiny 2 will not be a process that happens overnight, according to Bungie.
As stated in the TWiD:
Resolving these issues is our highest priority in support, but we must proceed with extreme caution. If we do it wrong, we could inadvertently worsen stability for players or cause new problems. This is not a process that can happen overnight, and we must ensure that [everything] is reliably delivered so that the Destiny 2 experience remains smooth and stable.
Why has Bungie even worked on these services? In preparation for the current DLC “Lightfall” and the upcoming major releases of Destiny, Bungie has begun to scale the server infrastructure, especially to accommodate more simultaneous players in the future.
So when will it run reasonably smoothly again? To address the issues, Bungie plans a combination of server maintenance, network system optimizations, and bug fixes.
However, the developers also noted that the patience of the Guardians will still be tested, as improvements take time.
This is what the master plan looks like at this time to address the issues:
With the midseason update 7.1.0.5 for Season 21, whichis set to be released in a few weeks, Bungie will initially implement an improvement to its logging and alert systems to prevent worsening stability problems in the future.
At the start of Season 22 on August 22, 2023, Bungie will add a “self-healing” capability to “Claims” to reduce the likelihood of Destiny 2 having to be temporarily taken offline when a problem occurs.
In early December, with the start of Season 23, the improved logging from Season 21 will then be used to introduce deeper and more comprehensive architecture improvements that enable service stability and quick recovery, as well as a number of other unspecified improvements.
The development team is aware of the difficulties and emphasizes that they can fully understand the frustration of the players. This timeline means that the patience of the Guardians will be tested until at least the end of the year, as there may still be outages.
And even afterwards, Destiny 2 will remain a live service game that will be more or less “in progress” indefinitely.
However, Bungie aims to minimize this risk through extensive testing and monitoring around the clock to bring everything back online as quickly as possible in case of instabilities.
The last of the six rarest uniques from Diablo 4 has been found and uploaded with a picture as proof! A player from an Asian server discovered the “Melted Heart of Selig” amulet.
Where was the item found? The lucky finder was playing a Necromancer in the Blind Caves dungeon when the item dropped (via icy-veins.com). A fan had already revealed in a cheat sheet in which dungeons to find the six rarest uniques.
In general, it was about the search for the following six uniques, all of which can now be found in players’ inventories:

The Grandfather – Two-Handed Sword
Ring of Starless Skies – Ring
Andariel’s Visage – Helm

Is this really the very first drop? In this case, it is at least the first documented drop of the rare amulet in a picture. It might be that players received the amulet before but did not share it with the public.
Furthermore, the amulet is rather one of the less sought-after items among the six rarest uniques. Therefore, some players might have obtained such an amulet but did not see it as extremely valuable.

The amulet drains resources instead of life. However, 1% life costs the player a full eight resources; at best, it could have only been three resources.

Data miners found images in the files of Counter-Strike 2 that allegedly show the remake of a popular map. Fans are excited.
Which map is it? Currently, numerous images are circulating on Twitter and Reddit showing a remake of the map Inferno. This map was first released on June 27, 1999, and has been revised several times over the years.
Visually, Inferno resembles a small town with European architecture, with Italian script on signs suggesting that the map is set in Italy.
The last redesign of Inferno was nearly seven years ago and was released in October 2016. Accordingly, fans are responding enthusiastically to rumors that the popular map is being revised for the release of Counter-Strike 2.

How reliable is the information? The creator of the post states that he found the images in the game files in the “Map Preview” area of CS2, however, no official information regarding a remake of Inferno has been announced so far.

However, the credibility of the leak is supported by the fact that the well-known Counter-Strike leaker “Gabe Follower” also shared the tweet with the Inferno images and wrote in his own post how incredibly beautiful he finds the remake (via Twitter).
Gabe Follower is considered a reliable source in the Counter-Strike community and was one of the data miners who shared the leaks for Counter-Strike 2 before the CS:GO successor was officially announced.

The mobile gaming market is very mature, and only the best and most differentiated titles have a chance of success. Additionally, we aim to focus more on developing products for the emerging class of MR devices and future AR glasses.
Specifically, this means that we will close our studio in LA, downsize our game platform team, and make further cuts across the company. As a result, we will discontinue NBA All-World and end production of Marvel: World of Heroes. This means that we will be laying off about 230 Niantics.
Why is Niantic doing this?
