The developers of Conan Exiles have announced an engine upgrade for Steam, giving their survival game a completely new look.
What is this upgrade? The developers of Conan Exiles have announced a free engine upgrade. Instead of running on Unreal Engine 4 as before, the title will be switched to version 5, resulting in significant graphical improvements.
There will not only be prettier graphics, but also new Nanite geometry, improved terrain, simulated water, new lighting and shadow effects, as well as renewed vegetation and a graphical update for the equipment in the game.

Images illustrate the difference
What does it look like? The developers have shown some comparison images in their trailer on YouTube, which clearly demonstrate the difference between the two versions. We show you what to expect.
The first two images show how much the ordinary landscape has changed. Flowers, bushes, and a bit more color make the game world look completely different.
The Unreal Engine 5 allows the use of Nanite and Lumen as new technologies, and these are evident in the lighting of the game world.
A look at the ground reveals a noticeably detailed representation of the world, making swamps, dirt, and puddles appear much muddier, while grass and meadows fit better with the buildings.
The improved water simulation is also new. Here you can see a clear difference both visually and in the behavior of the waves and how they break on the shore.
More grass, leaves, and bushes will be available in Conan Exiles as well – and they look much more realistic than before.
The characters and their equipment also look more realistic and colorful thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The small details on the armors are much easier to recognize.
Not only the green meadows and valleys receive a refresh, but there are also updates planned for other biomes.
When is the update coming? Starting May 5, 2026, all owners of the title on Steam will receive the new upgrade for free in celebration of the 8th anniversary of Conan Exiles. With this, the developers aim not only to please old fans but also to give new players a good moment to join.
