In the latest cinematic for the upcoming expansion of Diablo 4, the Lord of Hatred gets incredibly angry and extinguishes the lights of an important character in the story. Part of the community gleefully rejoices, but the Lord of Hatred has other plans.
Spoiler Warning: We are showing you the intro cinematic to Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred featuring a significant character death. If you want to go into the expansion completely spoiler-free, you should not continue reading.
In our overview, you will learn everything you need to know about Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.
Who is the character?
- Neyrelle has been part of the story since the base game of Diablo 4. She is trained by Lorath as the last student of the Horadrim.
- During the course of the story, she takes Mephisto’s Soulstone, one of the prime evils and the main antagonist for some time now.
- While we save Neyrelle in Vessel of Hatred, the corruption of the stone has evidently already taken a strong hold on her.
This is shown in the cinematic: Blizzard has released the opening cinematic for Lord of Hatred. There, Neyrelle is seen desperately searching for a way to defeat Mephisto, who is now disguising himself as the “Diablo-Jesus” Akarat and converting people.
Neyrelle researches with clues from Rathma’s prophecy for weapons against the Lord of Hatred and ultimately comes up with a spear of light. Her words make Mephisto incredibly furious.
In his rage, he breaks Neyrelle’s neck – which she apparently planned. For at that moment, she stabs a dagger into the body of the evil, who insists that he still had plans for her. It seems she was trying to escape just those:
Neyrelle is dead, long live the memory of Neyrelle
On Reddit, some players thank Mephisto for finally taking out Neyrelle. She is regarded in the community as one of the characters with the worst story, especially since Vessel of Hatred has heavily focused on the theme of friendship with her. Inappropriate for Diablo, people think.
However, you should not rejoice too soon about her death, as she will still play a role. I have already played Lord of Hatred and know that she continues to play an important role and is mentioned frequently, which I have noticed myself.
Starting April 28, you can see for yourself. Lord of Hatred will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox. In my opinion, the story of the new expansion is one of the best in the franchise so far, and many testers share my impression: Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred on Metacritic – Here’s what early reviews say about the new DLC
