At the State of Play 2026, a new project from the “God of War” universe was announced for the PS5, which managed to engage many fans with 20 minutes of gameplay. But besides the stylish combat, the new sidekick is causing a lot of discussion.
What are fans already excited about? In the 23-minute Gameplay Reveal
trailer for God of War, the enthusiasm of many fans is already evident. Not only Kratos’ wife Faye as the protagonist but also the showcased combat and her mobility in the air (especially a double jump) have the community buzzing with anticipation: “Kratos did not lie when he said she fought beautifully” (@connorhawke4373 under the Gameplay Reveal

In another topic, this blissful unity among fans regarding the announcement is put to the test. For alongside the stylish gameplay, it is precisely a talking die that is provoking discussions. And its voice might be familiar to many.

A familiar voice in a new form – but does it fit?
What kind of die is this? It is one of Faye’s sidekicks that will accompany her in God of War Laufey: A strange, cosmic die named Phranque (pronounced like Frank), whose voice is provided by Jack Quaid.
Quaid is primarily known for his role as Hughie from the Amazon series The Boys. And the community quickly took notice: “Hey Hughie, they turned you into a damned die” (@notseaththescaleless).
How do fans feel about this sidekick? While the reactions to the die-Hughie are mainly composed of references and jokes from “The Boys”, the question arises whether such a “ridiculous” character fits into God of War. However, judging by the clear excitement reflected in the reactions of many fans so far, it does not seem to be a concern: “Long live the die!” (galgor_ on Reddit).
