Fortnite: Battle Royale could soon get a new 1vs1 mode for personal duels. Following an announcement in March, Epic is likely to deliver the new mode soon.
What is the 1vs1 mode supposed to be? In a Reddit Q&A at the end of March 2019, a duel mode was among the questions asked. It would be great if you could specifically challenge players to duels in the lobby and take them out while waiting for the start of a round.
In response, Epic employee Darkveil said, “Yes, we are planning to implement a duel mode.”

However, this statement got a bit lost in the flood of other questions and has not been significantly noted since. But then the topic resurfaced on Reddit and Darkveil responded again.
What we know about the duel mode
Here is Epic’s response: In response to the question of what had happened to the duel feature a month later, Darkveil replied on Reddit:
“The duel feature is still a bit away, but a big piece of the underlying technology is coming in the next Creative mode update. We are bringing a feature that allows multiple rounds in succession as well as point allocation.”

So Epic is seemingly working on a fully fledged 1vs1 feature, which could be more than just a gimmick in the waiting lobby.
Other shooters have successfully implemented such modes recently. Among them is Call of Duty: WWII with the 1vs1 arena in the Headquarters lobby. It’s quite possible that Fortnite is planning something similar.
Here’s how players reacted: The fans reacted predictably with great joy at the announcement. One user even wanted to kiss the good Darkveil. The only question remains how the mode could look.
How could the 1vs1 mode function in the game? On the website Fortnite-Intel, speculation about the possible features of the duel mode has already taken place:
- It could be hosted in the respective block region, as it is very suitable for such small skirmishes.
- Each player could be given 100 materials for building, so they can start right away without having to farm for long.
- 2vs2 or 4vs4 modes could also be allowed. Well-known eSports and streamer teams like Tfue, Ninja, or Myth could then compete against each other in teams.

Officially, however, Epic has not revealed anything about the new mode so far.
When will the duel feature arrive? As Season 8 is coming to an end, the duel feature would fit perfectly into the yet unknown lineup of Season 9. It’s likely to be ready by early May at the latest. However, Epic did not specify a concrete date.
