Larian, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, have announced a new and their most ambitious game yet, Divinity. MeinMMO provides you with all currently available information about the role-playing game.
What kind of game is it? Divinity is a role-playing game set in the world of Rivellon, which is the intellectual property of Larian itself. Unlike Baldur’s Gate 3, the studio therefore has complete freedom over the story and content. We now know that Divinity will be a turn-based role-playing game in the style of Original Sin 2 and is even supposed to connect to the events of the previous part.
When will Divinity be released? A specific release date is still pending. A release at the end of 2027 is quite possible.
For which platforms will Divinity be released? There is still no announcement regarding this. Divinity will certainly be released for PC and presumably for consoles, but whether this will happen on PS5/Xbox Series X|S or already on the next generation remains to be seen. According to an AMA from February, a Switch port is also conceivable.
Will there be coop? Yes, even right at release. The party size is still to be decided.
Will there be mods? Yes, mods are intended to be allowed.
Is there a trailer? Yes, but for reasons of youth protection it’s only available on YouTube itself. And a small warning upfront: It is indeed quite brutal and contains both sexual and extremely violent scenes. The bear sex from Baldur’s Gate 3 is absolutely harmless in comparison.
For a gameplay impression, you can see here the direct predecessor of the series, Divinity: Original Sin 2:
All information on price, pre-order and editions
How much will Divinity cost? A price is still pending. Traditionally, Larian aligns with the market price and is often slightly below. Depending on development, we therefore expect around 60 euros.
When can I pre-order Divinity? There is still neither a release window nor a price for the game. Pre-orders are expected to be possible no earlier than half a year to a year before release.
Will there be early access? Yes, there will be an early access. A specific date and duration are still pending.
What editions will there be? This is also still pending. Larian is known for selling “finished” games that include no significant DLCs and hardly any cosmetics. Add-on content includes at most artworks and soundtracks in the founder editions, in one case a small additional story that is, however, not relevant to the plot.
Playtime and story – What is Divinity about?
There are not many hints about the story yet, but the trailer and the press release hold some details. Something dark emerges from the burned man in the trailer, which is very likely the Void, the traditional enemy in Divinity.
With the slogan: “The gods have fallen silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers awaken,” there is at least the implication that the gods have finally turned away from Rivellon after the events of Divinity: Original Sin 2, possibly due to the actions of the god-woken.
What the “new powers” are is hard to say, as the Void is not new but apparently appears as an enemy. Larian has already promoted a huge statue before the announcement, causing gamers to puzzle for days:
Do I need to know previous parts of the series? No. The developers have explicitly stated that everyone can dive into Divinity, even without prior knowledge. However, those who have played Divinity: Original Sin 2 should be able to dive a bit deeper into the world.
How much playtime will there be in Divinity? This cannot be said yet, but Larian promises an even larger game than Baldur’s Gate 3. Since players can invest well over 1,200 hours without completing the game, you can roughly imagine what the playtime for Divinity looks like.

Gameplay and content
What characters can I play in Divinity? Whether there will be Origins
, that is, characters with a fixed backstory that you can explore, is still unknown. However, the probability is high that Divinity will place great importance on companions and their stories and the companions are often part of the Origins
. For self-created characters, the following races will likely be available to you:
- Humans
- Elves
- Dwarves
- Lizards
Additionally, there are two suspected races: Orcs and Imps. You can find all information about playable races in Divinity and what makes them special in our overview here.
How does Divinity play or for whom is it suitable? Divinity will be a turn-based role-playing game in isometric perspective (cRPG), which places great importance on storytelling and less on action-based fights. The game is suitable for fans of:
- Baldur’s Gate
- Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
- The Divinity series
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Fantasy in general
These additional features still exist: The focus of development is also on the loot system of Divinity. In the predecessors, it was largely randomly generated, but this should no longer be the case in Divinity.
Additionally, the developers are working on a better narrative for dialogues to make save scumming unnecessary, meaning you no longer need to reload when something doesn’t work out.
By the way, the anticipation for Divinity has helped the predecessor, Divinity: Original Sin 2, achieve a new surge in popularity on Steam:
What is “Divinity” anyway?
The Divinity series has existed since 2002. The first part, “Divine Divinity,” was released then, which played like an action RPG in the style of Diablo. With “Divinity 2: Ego Draconis” (2009), Larian switched to more modern 3D RPGs and with Divinity: Original Sin (2017) entered the realm of cRPGs for which the studio is still known today.
Divinity is based on the world of Rivellon, which has its own gods and cultural peculiarities, such as:
- Elves who are very connected to nature but can eat body parts to experience the memories of the deceased
- Lizards that have built a dominant empire and keep other races as slaves
- „Eternal Ones“, an ancient race of undead that have lived on Rivellon for millennia but eventually vanished
With the upcoming installment simply titled “Divinity,” the developers aim to create the largest game in the series thus far and even larger than Baldur’s Gate 3. It will be “the Divinity we have always wanted to make, and you will have a lot of fun with it,” says Larian.
