Although ArcheAge Chronicles has not yet been released, publisher Kakao Games, in collaboration with developer XL Games, has already announced the next MMORPG.
What kind of MMORPG is this? Under the title ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom, a new MMORPG is being developed that is also intended for release in the West. The title is being developed for PC, so this is not a mobile version of ArcheAge Chronicles, but a standalone MMORPG.
While the developers are still very reserved with information about the new title, the philosophy is clear and evident.
We assume that “ArcheAge S” will provide a new gaming experience while preserving the essential enjoyment of the “ArcheAge” series, which has long been popular among players worldwide […] We will consistently prepare to ensure that the competitiveness of the “ArcheAge” series is fully realized in the global market.

According to the official announcement, PD Kim Kyung-tae is leading the project, the very original planning director and producer of the first ArcheAge from 2013. So, whoever is supposed to reinterpret the brand knows it at least from the ground up.

Albion Online Might Face Competition
If nothing is known yet, how come there is already more information? It is not very unlikely that Kakao Games and XL Games are developing three completely independent MMORPGs in parallel. About three months ago, in May 2026, another project next to ArcheAge Chronicles appeared in a financial report for the first time, which at that time was still named ArcheAge: Legacy.
Legacy sounded very much like Albion Online in many ways: focus on a player-driven economy, top-down perspective in Diablo style, low system requirements to enable large-scale battles on one screen, and gameplay clearly tailored to the hardcore faction.
Kakao Games officially confirms nothing regarding the ArcheAge S announcement, no word on PvP, economy, or sandbox elements; instead, they remain vague in marketing language about preserving the ArcheAge identity.
Additionally, a trailer for ArcheAge: Legacy is already circulating on the internet on YouTube, the origin and authenticity of which we have not yet been able to verify. It shows first gameplay along with abilities, which visually strongly resembles Albion Online and thus would fit the previous description. It could just as easily be a lovingly made fan fake. Will this be a PvP game? If ArcheAge S is indeed the renamed Legacy, the focus would clearly be on PvP, including a possible kill-and-loot mechanic similar to that of Albion Online, deliberately contrasting with the PvE-heavy, more MMO-lite Chronicles.
The only source for this description is the now about three-month-old financial report, and officially, nothing has been confirmed since then. However, one detail at least supports the thesis that both projects are identical.
The period mentioned there for Legacy, mid to late 2027, aligns quite precisely with the “release next year” announcement that Kakao Games is now making for ArcheAge S. One more piece of the puzzle fits together, but no proof yet, so caution is advised.
