Since the new season, there are new weapons to obtain in Destiny 2. Among them is a legendary sword named “Just In Case”. We will explain what makes it so special and how you can get it.
How do you get the sword? If you complete Tier 3 of the Reckoning, you have the chance to be rewarded with one of the new Gambit Prime weapons. This includes the new sword Just In Case. A successful completion can reward you with a curated version or a random roll.
This is how the legendary sword “Just In Case” performs in practice
What makes this sword special? Just In Case is an adaptive sword, the same sword class as the well-known DPS monster Stryker’s Sure-Hand from the Black Armory.
While the new sword cannot roll with the Surrounded perk, you can exclusively get the brand new perk “Shattering Blade.” In the curated version of the weapon, the perk is fixed.
This is what “Shattering Blade” does: When you consume your last ammunition with a heavy attack, the strike deals increased damage. Air attacks are excluded from this.
What makes this perk so special? With this perk, you deal three times as much damage with your last sword strike, an increase of 200%. If you plan your heavy ammo and attacks tactically in advance and combine them with other buffs, you can deal devastating damage.
In this video, CoolGuy shows you what the perk can do in PvE:
This is how “Just In Case” performs in PvE: While this perk is very situational, if you get close to one or more elite enemies, you can certainly benefit from it. In PvP, however, the new perk does not offer you any special advantages.
If, for example, the modifier “Heavyweight” is active, you can play a bit more with the perk mechanics and get the most out of this sword, as you can continually use and refill your ammunition.
This is how the sword performs in Gambit and Gambit Prime: Especially in Gambit Prime, the new sword offers a way to deal a lot of damage to the mini-bosses you encounter more frequently in this mode.
Since there is essentially always enough heavy ammunition on the map in Prime mode, you can easily eliminate blockers and refill your sword. Thus, you can utilize the bonus of Shattering Blade most frequently.
Especially for the Guardian role in Gambit Prime, the sword could be a possible alternative in the heavy slot.
What can the curated version of the weapon do? The masterwork version of the sword comes with the new perk “Shattering Blade” and the well-known perk “Assassin’s Blade,” which gives you a damage bonus and a movement boost on a kill.
Note: The perk Assassin’s Blade is exclusive to the masterwork variant and does not appear in the random rolls of the sword.
This perk combination makes the curated roll of the sword even more formidable. If you have little ammunition left, you can first defeat a small enemy to receive the damage bonus from Assassin’s Blade. Then you can use the remaining ammunition with a heavy attack against a boss or major.
This way, you can unleash both buffs in a single, devastating blow.
How good is the new sword now? This new sword is not an absolute must-have. You can indeed achieve something in some activities like the forges of the chain or in the Nightfall.
But if you are not an absolute sword enthusiast, there are numerous better alternatives in the power slot, such as the Wardcliff Coil, which deals more damage and is not situationally restricted.
For sword enthusiasts, the weapon is definitely interesting and worth a look – especially for Gambit Prime or the Escalation Protocol. For everyone else, not really recommended.
What do you think of the sword? Have you tried it yet? Or are you still busy leveling up? Let us know in the comments!
