Industry expert Jason Schreier talked with Strauss Zelnick – the CEO of Take-Two – about GTA 6. In his new video, the insider shares the key insights from the conversation.
Who is Jason Schreier? The industry journalist from Bloomberg has made a name for himself in recent years through his various investigative reports. There are hardly any other insiders as well-connected within the gaming industry. When something goes wrong, people turn to Schreier to report on it.
A few months ago, Schreier started a YouTube channel to provide deep insights into the gaming industry to all interested parties. In the current video, he talks about his latest interview with Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two. Of course, this primarily concerns the upcoming release of GTA 6, GTA Online, and the current financial report of the company.
What does Schreier say about GTA Online? Although Take-Two has made a large part of its revenue in the past with GTA Online, the publisher has exclusively discussed the single-player aspect of GTA 6 according to Schreier. The expert assumes that this will likely remain the case for quite some time.
“In the foreseeable future,” there will probably be no details about the new version of GTA Online (and what will happen to the current GTA Online), according to the expert. It seems we will all have to wait quite a while until the developers talk about the currently perhaps biggest question mark surrounding GTA 6.
Pre-orders for GTA 6: “Unprecedented,” “extraordinary,” and “amazing”
Below, we summarize the other key insights from our perspective – you can find the full video by Jason Schreier on YouTube:
- According to Strauss Zelnick, the number of pre-orders for GTA 6 is expected to be “unprecedented,” “extraordinary,” and “amazing” and “far” exceed what was anticipated. However, he does not want to provide specific numbers until a more complete picture of the sales figures is available.
- GTA 6 will initially only be released on PlayStation and Xbox. With regard to the price increases and potential supply shortages on those platforms, Zelnick stated that they are not currently concerned. The installed base of both platforms (i.e., the number of sold PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles) meets their internal expectations. However, he would be happier “if the price level would not rise.”
- Regarding the decision to release the first proper gameplay trailer for GTA 6 exclusively on Netflix, Zelnick only stated: “I do think there is logic behind this step. If the title launches on Netflix and people watch it, they will understand it better in my opinion.” However, he did not reveal any details about the deal.
Jason Schreier’s thesis on the Netflix deal: This way, Take-Two is likely trying to attract an audience to GTA 6 that they would not reach through a traditional gameplay trailer.
