World of Warcraft is still the best MMORPG on the market in 2026. One reason for this: Few other online role-playing games get their raid instances and dungeons as well and varied.
Speaking of PvE challenges (see previous page): When it comes to dungeons and raids, World of Warcraft has been one of the best the genre has to offer for us for 21 years. There are mainly four reasons for this, which we will briefly go through below.
Reason Number 1: You can tell that Blizzard has made a lot of money with WoW from the very beginning. In terms of content supply, no other MMORPG has probably enjoyed as many new PvE instances in the past 21 years – the number of dungeons is now in the triple digits, and we have over 50 raids. Additionally, there are the depths introduced with “The War Within”.

Reason Number 2: The highlights of dungeons and raids are, at best, the bosses that reside there. WoW not only defeats an incredibly wide range of villains with wonderfully varied mechanics and phases. Some of the most iconic final bosses of the MMORPG genre can also be found in Azeroth – such as the Lich King, Ragnaros, or Sargeras.
Reason Number 3: The dungeon and raid content of WoW is available in several variants. This allows players to experience this content even if they have little time or are not part of an active guild. Additionally, there are many good reasons for collectors to regularly visit the instances of older expansions.
Reason Number 4: The cooperative group fights in WoW still feel good even today. This is partly due to the holy trinity of tank, healer, and damage dealer. On the other hand, it is also due to the classic tab-targeting system, which allows full control over healing and tank maneuvers during fights. The action-rich combat systems of more modern MMORPGs often perform worse in group situations.
All this combined ensures that dungeons and raids remain among the greatest strengths of WoW even after 21 years and are unmatched in the MMORPG genre.
